Question
Speaking in generalities, would a current diagnosis of Addisons disease preclude certification under the FMCSR mandated physical?
Answer
I remember reading about it in nursing school.
But as a Critical Care and ER nurse it's not something I evfer dealt with much.
Nor have I run across it in my current field of expertise. Gimme a day or two to research it and I'll get back to ya, OK?
And if I forget, remind me PLEASE!
Things are very hairy and busy at work, so I may need my cage rattled.......

Answer
Addison's Disease is (in generalities) caused by Adrenal Gland Insufficiency. The causes of which may vary.
Bottom line is this....Untreated Addison's may have the following symptoms
1) Weakness
2) Fatigue
3)Anorexia
4)Hypotension (Low blood pressure)
5)Postural dizziness (Dizziness when you go from sitting or lying to standing position quickly)
6) Gastointestinal symptoms
The low B/P and the fatigue and dizziness would definitely be disqualifying factors.
Addison's is generally treated with Corticosteriods which would not cause any disqualification problems on a physical or drugf screen.
Persons being treated for Addison's and being compliant with treatment should have no problem being certified.
Hope this answers your question.
