Question
I broke my Coccyx (tailbone) a few years back and have been having pain in my lower spine since then. That was back in January '99, and it has since healed (according to the medical professionals). I recently went back to work as a driver, and have been at it for just over a month, and the type of equipment I operate isn't exactly the most comfortable. When I get out of the truck, I am in so much pain that I could barely stand, let alone sit down on anything. It's not just the tailbone, it is the entire spine up to my neck and down my legs. I also get the numbness and tingling in the lower legs and feet. I am only doing this until (IF) things pick back up in the I.T. industry, and then I could get back into what I changed careers for. Meanwhile, I need to find a way to be more comfortable when driving, especially on the massive road cracks and potholes that are unavoidable. I have tried the donut cushons, and adjusted the seat to no avail. I have also tried the types of exercises that are supposed to be done, but havn't been given results. Any ideas here? I'm at a loss for now, but don't wish to give up so soon.
Erik.

This is a no-brainer.
Get out of the truck for good...now...

I can sympathize with you somewhat. Years ago I just BRUISED my coccyx and had discomfort after long periods of sitting for years.
My guess would be that you are going to need to find another line of work or purchase some type of custom built seat.
Have you tried using anti-inflammatory medications?

this may be a too good to be true "cure," but I just saw this thing on this stuff called "Super Blue Stuff." I assume that it must do at least PART of what it claims becuase there's a money back guarantee. This guy came up with it for his wife because of chronic pain. I don't know how well it works, but I'm thinking about trying it. If it doesn't work, send it back.
anyhoo, if u wanna check it out and see if it's an option, go to www.bluestuff.com. It's a couple out of Bethany, OK.
And for those of you who are going to break ur necks and keyboards to quickly respond and tell me I'm a naive idiot, yeah, ok, what ever. You wouldn't be the first to tell me that, probly won't be the last, either.
Answer
IRIK, Try this..
How does your back feel if you sit on a chair that has the SAME firmness and support as the seat on the truck. If it feels the same as the truck seat then perhaps the problem is not the up and down movement. Perhaps it could be just sitting for too long is causing the problem.
I had some of your symtoms but my problem was just sitting for too long at times. I found relief with a special seat cushion. The relief wasn worth the price. The cushion has the brand name of EDT(extended driving time).BOL

many years ago...have you tried physical therapy?
I am not an expert, but it sounds serious and like it needs to be checked out by a doctor.
