Answer
Hi Chuckie,
Glad to hear you have done well and are working again.
Before you report to the physician who will be performing the DOT medical certification, have your cardiologist write a statement indicating that you are healthy post-op. Have him include a copy of the most recent EKG done after surgery. That should be all you need according to the DOT regs.
However.....there was a council that got together and suggested some RECOMMENDATIONS that some companies have adopted as regulations. This council indicated that ANYONE suffering from any cardiac condition should have a yearly stress test prior to the DOT exam. The expense for this exam falls on the driver and they can be quite costly, not to mention difficult for an OTR driver to schedule on a yearly basis.
So, it will depend on who you are driving for and what their requirements are, and it will depend on the examining physician, and what he requires.
If you have had a stress test, take a copy of those results as well.
And good luck to you. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you need further assistance.
