Question
What are the requirements for the examiner:
Is an ARNP authorized to carry out the DOT physical exam, or does the examiner have to be a physician?
Answer
Cruiser,
A registered Nurse Practitioner functions under the supervision of a physician. The supervision does not need to be immediate,(meaning the physician does not need to watch the exam be performed, but is ultimately responsible for the ARNP's performance).
Some companies will not accept a physical exam that is performed by anyone other than a physician unless the physician co-signs the exam. This is also dependent on individual state laws and how they apply to ARNP's. Refer to CFR 49 part 40 390.5.

Thank you for the reply.
Thinking a little more about it though, it probably doesn't matter a "whole" lot anyway. Whatever company I choose to work for will require that I have another D.O.T. physical anyhow.
