I am going in for my D.O.T. physical on wednsday and like to know what I can expect in the way of test and what are the standards for each.I need a response asap. THX
Answer
This would be much easier to answer if you indicated what your areas of concern might be.
But here are the type of things they will (should) check.
Vision (20/40 or better in each eye and together)
Blood Pressure- must be below 160/90
Urine-No sugar or protein present
Medical history- No history of cardiac problems, diabetes controlled with insulin, no history of seizures.
Body condition-No loss or loss of use of any appendage that will limit your ability to operate a CMV safely.
Hearing-able to hear a whispered voice at 5 feet distance.
Those are the most common tripping points on a pysical exam. There are others and for more detailed info please visit our site here at Truck.net
Just go to www.Truck.net/abms and click on the areas of interest. Let me know if you need further clarification.

Answer
I always wondered why ther was ANY requirement as to hearing?? It's not like you can hear a dammed thing in a truck anyway. Probably another case of Washington geniuses making up rules for jobs they know nothing about
Answer
Thx everyone for the info. I had my physical and passed with no problem. And about the hearing test the nurse said three words in a loud wisper kind of lame.Plus the nurse used
the wrong cuff because I have large arms so my B.P. was 162 over 90. The doctor redid the test and used the correct cuff and it was
126 over 84. And I got my CDL permit today so I'm off to L.A. on the 27th for training with Schneider National. I'm very excited.
Answer
Glad to hear that you passed with flying colors. The "nurse" was probably a poorly trained tech. A Nurse would have known which cuff to use!
As for Psycho's comment about hearing and truck noise, I've often wondered the EXACT same thing! Oh Jeez, Now I'm agreeing with something Psycho said! ARRRRGGGGHHHH!
Scary ain't it?
