Is it ok....

Question
For a driver to take Wellbutrin? My doctor wants me to try this to help me stop smoking. Is it on the disqualify list? Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks,
Smuckers

Answer
You can take Wellbutrin and drive. It will not show up on a drug screen.
The interesting thing is that most insurances will not pay for Zyban, which is the name for Wellbutrin when marketed as a 'stop smoking aid'. However, they will pay for Wellbutrin if prescribed for 'mild anxiety'. And it's cheaper in it's generic form.
Just to be on the safe side. Have your physician write you a statement indicating that he has prescribed it for smoking and that in his opinion it will not affect your ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
Then, when you have a day or two off, take it for a few days to see how it affects you. Some may experience some mild drowsiness initially but it disappears as your body adjusts to it.
Good luck to you in your effort to stop smoking.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.

HEY SMUCKER'S... Congratulations on making the first step. You HAVE to want to quit.
If the pills work go for it, but if you are like me it was a habit that needed a really good scare to break. (read-EMPHYSEMA). Been a month now, did it cold turkey.
Now if I could just break the RED LICORICE ADDICTION......
