vision and the DOT regs

Question
I have read the DOT regs regarding vision, the 20/40 or better in each eye and together corrected if I remember right.
I just had my visit with the eye Doc today. Not only was it time to do it again, but I am hoping to go to school soon for driving. Here's the rub.
My corrected vision using both eyes is 20/20, right eye corrected is 20/15, my left 20/60 I have ?myopia? (lazy eye) in my left, Doc says that is why I can see 20/20 with both even though my left is only 20/60.
I talked with him about the DOT regs, he was familiar with them... he wrote me a letter for any prospective employers and for whoever it is that does my physical stating that he is familiar with the regs, and that after examining me his judgement is that I can safely perform as a driver with no hinderences. (or something to that effect :-)
Will the DOT allow this with no restrictions on my license? I'm in Colorado if that has any bearing on the situation.
Should I just go get myself a DOT physical with that letter in hand and see what happens?
What I find a little frustrating is that the FAA will allow me to operate an aircraft (have had my airmans medical certificate for 16 years), but that the DOT might not allow me to drive a truck?? grrrr...
Eagerly awaiting any guidance.

Answer
This is gonna be a tuff call Dan. If the physician performing the medical exam is a hair splitter, you may very likely wind up doing the waiver boogie.
If the regs are followed to the letter, that is what will happen.
But, you may get lucky and get a physician that isn't very diligent in his examination.
Please check back and let us know how it goes, OK?
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.

Answer
Thanks for the reply Nurse Red.
I talked to the recruiter today and told him the whole sordid story to see if I should even bother enrolling.
He told me that with the eye Doc signing off on me, along with a letter from him, that the Physician that does the physicals would *probably* let me through without any waiver games.
Soooo.... we'll see what happens.
I'm scheduled to start school May 7th, with the physical that same day. I'll post again once that happens and let y'all know how it went :-)

Answer
I had my physical this morning.
The eye test went fine, their chart has me at 20/15 R and 20/40 L. Didn't have to do anything special.
Have medical in hand, started school today.
