Medical Discrimination Yes or No

Question
I had to step down driving due to my diabetes.
I have been taking insulin injections for 2 months now and will be undergoing major surgery the middle of april for weight lose .
My main concern is this: Due to being unemployed i was forced to apply for SSI and have been accepted and will recieveing a check until september when i will be driver certified to drive again and off of the insulin shots all together.
i will also be at least 80 to 125 pounds lighter and please no laughs or snikers i see some let me say plump drivers out their hehe.
well any ways what i want to know is , i wont lie on my applications to companies and i have to put down that i have been disabled for a year . i do know i will have to have retraining and im not happy about it but if it gets me back on the road then thats what i will have to do. can companies discriminat against me being disabled even after i am certified with a legal DOT phisical form from my diabetic doctor whom also is my primary care doctor.
taking a company phyiscal will not be a problem .
sorry the letter was so long any imput would be appreciated.

it's hard to tell how companies will react to the fact that you're a diabetic, the guy that trained me yrs ago was a dia betic and he is still driving to this day,i know that the dot says you can't drive if youare using the shots,i may be wrong, you shouls be able to be approved ny the dot if you are taking the oral medication as long as you haven't had a blackout in a year or more, please correct me if i'm wrong though,it's been awhile since i read up on the subject,i'm glad you will be able to get off the shot, my mom's a diabetic and she has to take 2 or 3 shots a day, they've tried or on other methods but she's been on the shot to long, good luck with your surgery and i hope you do make it back out on the road

I know your going in for some sort of a weight loss sugery...be it the 14 by 4 by pass, or the stomach staple,or the stomach net, or the gastric resection....I've had them all except the stomach net. I am currently a gastric resection, due to a botched stomach stapling done by a butcher with a MD license. So be very careful, learn all you can,and follow the Dr.'s orders to the letter. And most importantly...if you have any problems, demand the Dr. address them. I didn't......and it cost me my stomach....and nearly my life. I went from 250 pounds to 86 pounds in 11 months.I still suffer from brittle bone disorder, and a compliment of metabolic disorders...all associated with the botched sugery, and the fact that when the Dr. told me it was MY fault I couldn't keep anything down....I believed him.
