Question
What the heck is this? My toenails are getting thick like an old persons! I went to the Doctor and he said its very common and is just a fungus. He said he could give me a prescription for it so I checked it out and they want $85 bucks for it and thats just for one month! And it takes like 90 days to even see results!! Do you know of anything else I can do?
Answer
It may sound silly, and you may find it a bit embarrasing, but.....you can go get a pedicure and ask the person to file the thickness down on the ends.
The reason you won't see any results for 90 days is because the nail grows from the skin out. They don't grow from the end.
The only other suggestion would be to have the toenails surgically removed, then use the medication to eliminate the fungus. I would definitely suggest you discuss this option with your doctor as it is pretty drastic, not to mention, kind of uncomfortable for awhile.
Have you asked your doctor if there is a generic form of this medication that might not be so costly?

Thanks for the advice!!
Answer
Try asking the doc, or a Podiatrist for a med called Fungoid tincture
This is what they used, with some success, for many moons before science reinvented the wheel.
You might even want to check with a phamacist to see if you still need a perscription, it may be OTC now.
Remember, keep clean and go barefoot whenever possible. Fungus hates air and light!!!

Cuz unless you can REALLY sanitize em' you will reinfect yourself !!!
For the record, the best thing I've found for foot fungus is to take lotimin powder, and mix it into bag balm, or you can use petrolium jelly. Then you use a flat tooth pick, and be sure to get as much as possible under the toe nails. Then massage some between the toes, and the cuticles. do this every day, after washing your feet. It does work well.
BTW.....I learned this cure from an old country cowboy Dr., but he added Blue Vitrel to it,and originally used it on horses, for hoof rot !!
But,honest,I've used it for athelete's foot, toenail fungus, and heat fungus...

Hi there.. Tea tree oil (available at any health food store, and even some grocery stores) will clear that right up. I noticed my mom's toenails were doing the same thing, and she used it on them for about two weeks, and tossed the old shoes, and they look much better now! (also, it can be used for just about any skin condition!)
Lots cheaper than 85 bucks, too!! (a good size dropper bottle is about 5 bucks..

wash your feet real good then mix about 2 cup's of apple cider vinegar and ice cold water and soak your feet for about 30 min's . I do this about twice a week and wear thong's as much as I can . This is for athletics foot but it may work for the other ( I also have the fungs under my thumb-nail's )
King Fa said try an Oak bowl and cold water as the oak will leach into the water and then into your feet . I have not tried this yet but it's on my list !!
( I take my Alaskan Malamute , moose mute for short ?? walk's in thong's , and sometimes she just pull's me along work's like ski's , beware it will get cold in the snow though LMAO )

Don't fool yourself .... a fungus toe nail will not cure it's self. Lamisil was my solution, and yes it was expensive. However it cured the nail fungus I had experienced for years.

He was prescribed Lamisil, at $250. for a one month supply (non-generic). It does take three month for it to irradicate the fungus from the tissue of the quick. You can notice a line of demarkation, where the healthy nail is growing out, within 2-3 weeks of starting the treatment.
One other thing this fungus does, it give you "stinky feet". The oder is bad enough to bowl you over. Within 2-3 weeks of starting the treatment the oder begins to less and disappears completely by the end of the treatment. Lemme tell ya, that was quite a relief

I'm a generation removed from the country life, so I've lost a lot of my faith in the backwoods remedies. I am a big believer in herbs, vitamins and trace elements, though. Take 17 pills/tablets a day, including:
- bee pollen for prostate
- bilberry and zinc for eyesight/night vision
- butcher's broom for insulin regulation
- St. John's wort for mood control
- garlic, ginko biloba, fish oil, copper for circulation
- selenium, coenzyme Q10, vitamins C + E as antioxidants
- red clover for cancer
- various vitamins, etc.
The folks at GNC love to see me!
Have had experience with toenail fungus. Nothing seems to work but the high-priced prescription stuff.
I suppose you could try a fungicide for rose bushes, tho...lol
