Question
Tomorrow I have an appointment for a colonoscopy, I dont know what to expect, the prep sheet says I will be sedated, does that mean I will be asleep or just half way. I dont know what to expect, I kind of feel like it will be like a close encounter of the third kind. Like a bad dream! Can you give me some insight (no pun intended) as to what I should expect!

Answer
From my experience: You will be as you put it half asleep. And the procedure is not really what you would call painful only uncomfortable, to what degree depends on how relaxed you can stay. If you can think of something pleasant and keep your mind elsewhere during the procedure it will definitely help.
Good luck
It is not a long process...

Actually the preparation is worse than the exam if you know what I mean...
Answer
Just horsing around.....
You will be sedated, and that is not just to relax you mentally but physically as well. You will not likely sleep thru it, it is not the most commfortable procedure. But it is certainly tolerable. Relaxation is the key.
As mentioned before, the 'preparation' is the tuff part. Everything must be as 'clean as a whistle', if you know what I mean.
The nurse that assists the doctor will probably be the one that gives you the most info and helps you get past the unpleasant parts.

I had both a colonosocopy and sigmoidosopy with no medication. At the time I didnt know medication was an option. Next time I will ask for it. The procedure was NOT painful. I would describe it as a little more than unpleasant. Be glad you are having it done.

Well I have to agree, the diet of water, broth and juice for one day has just got to be worse than the procedure itself. A few more hours and it will all be over. I did not sleep well last night, not because of the procedure but because I was and still am hungry! The phosphate or whatever it is I had to drink last night and again in a few minutes is awfull! I guess I have to count my blessings, first I have always had food in my mouth, second medicine is available and then of course family, with out my wife insisting I go to the doctor I may have ignored the problem and maybe made things worse! I will post the outcome! Thanks for the support...
Well took that crapy medicine laxitive, I almost didnt make it. That stuff is terrible, I cant wait for lunch! Should be a hell of a lot better than my breakfast!
