Answer
Warts are caused by a virus. Have you consulted a dermatologist (skin doctor)? Most primary care physicians are not as well versed in treatments of skin disorders. I'd consult a specialist.

I want to relate my experience to you, this may get long.
I also suffered from warts, defined as "planters warts."
I had them on the ball of my right foot, on my fingers and on my lips.
The warts on my foot I developed while I was in the Army. The doctors there did not take an interest, though it was becoming quite large and causing a large amount of discomfort.
The warts spread to a more ..... er .. private area and was becomiong not only irritating, they were embarassing.
After discharge I went to a REAL doctor who gave me this prognosis.
"You will require surgery to remove the warts, we will not get them at the first setting, you will undergo several surgerys to remove them completly. The one on your foot will be so bad you will be bedridden for several days and unable to work for several months. When that surgery heals, we will repeat the proceedure."
Two days later they began to dry up and disappear!
When I reported this to the doctor, he just smiled and said, "I figured they would."
Seems, as Nurse Red said, they ARE a virus. They can be killed by your own body's immune system, BUT you must direct it to!
The doctor said the fear he had generated by my impending surgeries had indeed instructed the body to kick butt on those devils.
That is why the old wives tales about tombstones, graveyards and midnight work, because you believe they will!
Your body has the most amazing ways of protecting and curing it's self if those natural forces are invoked.
The doctor also stated I would never again have warts, since I now had the anti-bodies to fight them off, and I never have.
How YOU invoke this healing process is not for me to define, but know it can be done. Demand, wish, pray or cuss, but you can cure them yourself.
Best of luck!
