Answer
You poor thing!
It is not uncommon for what you are describing to occur. Sugar has a tendency to increase energy but only for a short time, then the slump occurs and you get the sleepies.
Every body reacts a little differently, of course.
I could get into real technical descriptions of the endocrine system here, but I don't think that is what you are looking for.
May I suggest that you have your physician run a couple of simple lab tests on you. First of all a fasting blood sugar is in order. Depending on the results of that, he/she may do a Hemoglobin A1C and/or a glucose tolerance test.
These are not very expensive tests and can be completed in a relatively short period of time.
In the meantime, Many of the candy making specialty shops offer some really tasty sugar free chocolate. I know...My Dad is diabetic but he LOVES turtles. At Xmas I got him a pound of sugar free ones and he was amazed at how good they tasted.
Keeping you safe, healthy and on the road.
