Question
Do you run multiple websites? Have you ever thought about hosting a second or third website in your space just for the revenue?
I've been thinking about this a bit. Diversity is always a good thing. Sometimes it seems that everything here is focused on ebay and online selling: get or make a product, build a website, promote the heck out of it, and wait for the sales to roll in.
However, there are lots of websites that make good money without selling a thing. A website like that would be fairly low-maintenance and could contribute significantly to your bottom line.
What brought this to mind is a website that an acquaintance has up. It wasn't planned to be a revenue-maker, but it's the biggest thing he has right now. This guy is an online gamer. He's into independently-hosted game servers. He had problems finding servers that were running when he wanted to play.
He decided to make a web page, mostly for himself and gaming friends, that would tell him what servers were up, how many people were online, etc. Just an easy resource for playing.
The web page has been up for a couple of months. When it started getting traffic, he added Google Ads. For the last few weeks, the income from the Google Ads has been generating a consistent $10-15 per hour.
That brings up a whole bunch of new problems for him, like can his host handle the traffic, anticipating the first copy-cat site and what it will do to his revenue......bunches of other things I haven't even thought about as well.
For the next few months, though, he will ride the roller coaster and make a few bucks.
Secondary web sites are definitely worth thinking about. Got a hobby, or a frustration that might translate to a web page? A couple of hours of work might solve your problem and give your bottom line a healthy boost.

Wow! Ka-CHING.
I don't really want to put google ads on my main website, but a secondary website (utilizing keywords and referring search info) might be something to consider.
Interesting - thanks Jayne!
Answer
Jayne, you are a genius. You've given me an idea.
Answer
Jayne why you think I have 5 sites and getting ready to start a 6th
Answer
Update...
Talked to this guy again this week.
His roller coaster ride has flattened out, but his webpage is about 6 months old now. It's now generating a fairly consistent $400-500 per month.
Answer
That is equal to my best month (Dec) I average about $200 which is not bad for "free money"
