Question
hi everyone
my site is up but I need to get some views on what I can do to improve it. Since I really need to concentrate on listing as much as possible...for now just getting my site up and able to promote my ebay and overstock auctions was my goal. I'm not entirely thrilled with Godaddy as I thought I'ld be able to do my own html but instead you only get to do "snippets" of html not a do your own html page like I had thought. So, that kinda limits me.
Any suggestions of what I CAN do to improve my site as far as getting traffic would be wonderful
I'll check back to see if anyone has any pearls of wisdom for me TIA
oh yeah...you'll need my website addy ..... it's Mom and Child
Answer
If Godaddy is your host you should be able to upload your own html pages to your space and run them instead.
No idea on the search engine/traffic part but I wanted to let you know that your links to your ebay and overstock auctions are not on the "links and item of the month pages.
I think it would be good to keep those links on all your pages so that if they don't find something on the item of the month page that sparks their interest they will have a quick link to shop some more.
Other thing I would do is make the about us page the home page and have it load as the index page.
Folks are impatient and want to shop shop shop!
If you need a two click away page for ebay then you can create a page that leads to your index page.
Other than those things the pages look great.
You have done a great job!
Hope this helps ya.

Momand child here is a post I made on another board. Ps your site is now indexed in Google.
Meta tags. First of all I consider the title the most important tag. It should be limited to about 12 words. Your MAIN keyword phrase should be first even before your site name. Believe it or not Google searchers will not search for your site name. Your friends and relatives will. When thinking search engines think TOP, LEFT and FRONT. These are the words that get the most weight in Google.
Your description tag is next. This should basically follow same rules as title tag. You can go up to 24 words in your description tag so you can go into more detail. For example keep in mind that Google sees singular and plural as different words. Say in your title you used "Blue Widget" then in your description you would want to use "Blue Widgets".
Your keyword tag is the least important. I understand most search engines no longer use keyword tag due to "spamming". There are some rumors that Google is now using them again. Remember the correct format is "keyword comma space" Here's an example "widget, red widget, blue widget, widgets, red widgets, ect"
Your meta tags on each page should be written for that specific page and its items. This pertains to all 3 tags. Don't copy and paste your homepage tags to your content pages. All keywords in your keyword tag should be contained on that page.

My first thought is that your products are waaaaay too deep inside.
I'd make the "Favorite Buys of the Month" the very first page the viewer sees. Add the links to ebay and overstock on that page, too.
If you want to talk about who you are and your mission, put it on the "About Us" page for people who want to read it. Most buyers don't care. They want to know what you have for sale, how much it costs, how to pay, and what shipping will be.
Another suggestion would be to get rid of the paragraphs. Viewers don't read. They skim. Make it easy for them by using bulleted lists or subheadings.

Mom and Child is a family owned Internet Auction Store born from the passion to shop and find quality items for my family at bargain prices...
Your site talks too much about "you" and your family. While that is nice, your vistors only want to hear about what you have for them.
Mom and Child is a family owned Internet Auction Store born from the passion to shop and find quality items for your family at bargain prices.
Etc...
Much better...
