Question
Hi...I am new here. I just happen to run up on this forum on the web and the folks seemed nice and helpful to each other, so, I thought I would join
Anyway, I got in on the "free webhosting for 3 years" deal at 1 & 1 hosting. I also got a free .info domain name. The 2 together would make www.jlesley.info . Please remember I am a newbie at websites, so, be gentle. I have some other things I wanna put on there but I don't know how yet.
I am new to making webpages so I used their website creator but I am having trouble understanding alot of the control panel and the WSC.
Anyone familiar with 1 & 1?

Sorry to say, I never use the 1&1 Control Panel, it has to be one of the hardest to understand and most convoluted, non-sense-making user interface of any website I have ever seen. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time, so once I was able to get mine set up that I could FTP files into it, I nevvvver wennnt baaaack!
And I don't host a website through them, I just use their s123456789.onlinehome/whatever provided space, so I can't help you with the WSC either. Gee, basically I'm just here to say "Hi, I can't help you!"

Thanks Gem. It seems that I am not the only one thoroughly confused with the 1 & 1 control panel.
I got as far along with my site as I did by using their website creator but I wanna figure out how to FTP my files there without the site creator.

Not sure how Deanawo is pronounced but Jeffwo is like Jeffro with a "w". The little kids around here try to call me Jeffro...it comes out Jeffwo, so I used it for a handle...lol.

I can't help you with the control panel, either, but LOTS of people here can help with the FTP. Do you have an FTP program? There are a few free ones around. I like AceFTP freeware, which can be downloaded here: http://software.visicommedia.com/en/...ceftpfreeware/

I occasionally use my 1&1 account to store pics. I can't find my notes at the moment but I remember having to set up an FTP account from the control panel. You will have a separate user ID for the FTP account. I use WS ftp for mine and it's quick and easy.

Thanks, Joan...yes, that is the post that I found in Google which originally led me here...lol
I can log in and get an FTP connection but I can't seem to transfer any files to the website. I think it is something to do with my using their website creator
I guess I will have to get my website ready in Notepad to be uploaded there and delete what I have set up with their creator? I don't know enough HTML yet to make the whole website...grrrr.

Jayne, I think thats the whole problem with this 1&1 thing -
the setting up of your FTP to them is a nightmare.

was just funny the similar name and the pic on your site)
If I remember right, it DOES have something to do with using their WSC
- I think I had to disable mine and reset something before I could get
anything to load to my FTP ...
once you see what it is you go "ohhhhh, okayyyy"
but they just dont make it easy to find.
I'll see if I can get in there today and try to recall exactly what I did to get mine to work ...
