Installing AWStats (website logfile analyzer)

Question
Does anyone know if AWStats can be installed on 1and1.com's linux web hosting?
I don't like the stats that 1and1 provides.
I tried reading the AWStats FAQ on installing it but didn't understand one word of it.

Answer
grumpygramp,
don't have that webhost, I use powweb, but I installed awstats without any problems. (from what I remember, it was a year ago ! ) great stats, worth the trouble. let me know if you need help and I'll try to remember how to do it.

Answer
Hi mel-
Yes I would love the help.
I tried reading the install FAQ at AWstats and coundn't understand it.
It looked greek to me.
I've used AWstats before and really like them.
What 1and1 has installed is hard to read. Everthings on a seperate page.

Answer
grumpygramp,
after looking at it, I think I decided to use powwebs instructions to install awstats. It tells you exactly what to do. i vaguely remember being totally confused by awstats site instructions.
here is the link to powwebs tutorial:
http://powweb.com/tutorials/index.ph...ics&topic_id=1
maybe they will work on your site? Have you looked to see if your host has instructions? powweb has a tutorial page that covers alot of things like that, the tutorials are written by other members so are usually pretty clear.
Hope this helps, let me know yay or nay,

Answer
Hi mel-
I did some digging on google and found two sites with 1and1 info:
http://blog.lidan.net/archives/000027.html
http://blog.ravi.cc/archives/000017.html
I just not sure what the setting should be for 1and1
It still sounds greek to me
Your tutorial sounds easy to use for powweb.
I wish there was such an easy one for 1and1.
Uggh!
I feel so dumb.

Answer
Does your host use cpanel ?

Answer
I use Weblog Expert installed on my desktop machine. I have to download my log files daily from the sever, of course. But the reports generate very fast.
But the stats seem fairly good.
Might be an alternative to loading Awstats on the server.

Hi kenlee_v2,
Are you using the full version from http://www.weblogexpert.com ?
Their sample stat page seems to be very fast.
1&1 WebStatistics are very slow and they aren't all on one page.
