Google & Google-bot

Question
Unfortunately, this is a QUESTION! How does one determine from their website logs "WHO" Google/Goolebot are?
Is there a specific IP address for each/either?
My stats indicate an IP number, but I don't know WHO IP# XXX.XXX.XXX.XX is!
Does anyone know?

Answer

I use awstats and it shows all search engines in a seperate area and includes number of hits and bandwidth. doesn't show their ip number so can't tell you that http://community.here.com/infopop/em...icon_frown.gif

Answer
Go to http://www.network-tools.com, and plug the IP in there, and it'll tell you who it is, or samspade.org.

Some hosts' stats programs don't do a reverse DNS to match an IP to a host because it can take up a lot of CPU.

Actually, after further reading, the IP address that's listed will simply point you to google or googlebot, and usually not the actual IP address of the person browsing.

You have referers which are domains such as google.com, here.com, and ebay, or possibly IP's that have links to your site.

Then you have Visitors or Hosts that describe where the visitor is coming from (their ISP).

Thanks, Dave!
Appreciate the information!
