Question
I'm sure that many of you have noticed that there are now pretty large banner ads that show up above the search results when you look something up on eBay. It's all part of the Yahoo!-eBay agreement, and they both say that it's driven based on Yahoo's advertising program that's similar to Adwords.
I had a couple of questions and would love to get peoples' feedback:
(1) They say that the ads show up based on the search terms. Has anyone found this to be true? I always just see big company ads that are unrelated.
(2) Doesn't this drive sales AWAY from eBay, especially if they do get it to be based on search terms? So, if I sell a plasma TV and Sony advertises a special offer, where do sellers or eBay for that matter win here?
(3) Can we use this to point to our own (non-eBay) sales sites where we don't have to pay the final value and listing fees? If so, does anyone know how to do it?
Answer
I ran a search for "Heisey sugar" and got a Vonage banner.
Answer
They've had their math geniuses doing the terms related to each other

advertising is the name of the game for them.
Answer
It's kind of like the commericials on TV -- I just "tune out" and don't even really see them. My guess is that most folks are so used to be bombarded by ads every where that they do the same and just blank out when they are there.
Answer
Yep. They're calling it "sponsored advertising" or some such. Blehh.
Answer
Be glad it does not relate to the item serched for.
Answer
