Question
One for spammers and one for folks who are trying to build a viable long term web presence.
I just thought I mention it!
Not that there are any spammers here. At least none that I care to name at the moment.
:)
Answer
OK, what am I missing? kenlee, is someone from here spamming you?

Ahhhh, well that is against Google's rules and can be reported here: http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html
I detest spammers and I report every single one I find!

We're going to address some issues with posting URLs to websites in the Webmaster areas very soon.. We want this area to be useful to a wide array of people without having others post questions just to get their URL on the site..
One thing I'm considering will be a new policy that will require all links that include instructions to use example.com.
i.e.
Rather then using ".
Is this the kind of 'spamming' you were referring to kenlee?

Answer
i was going to post a smile face, but there is not a button.
Answer
Jim;
Not really. While I know that kind of spammy url drops can be a problem, it also really puts a drag on site review requests that might help someone improve their website. Site reviews can be really helpful to members who are building their own sites.
Many of us here, including me, have benefited from being able to ask other members to look at our pages to see if they work right etc. I hope that continues to be allowed.
Not being able to ask other members to look at your site makes getting help a lot harder. That is even more so for members who may not have a lot of experience building websites.
If herens were professional webmasters, that might be less of an issue. But I don't think most of us qualify as professional webmasters. More likely most herens with independant websites are merchants simply trying their best to compete in real life and on the internet. Web site building is just another aspect of that effort, but probably not the main focus for most here.
I'd rather see this section excluded in the robots.txt so that those links don't get picked up by the search engines.
Real forum spamming with dropped urls that are not real requests for help, or are not posted as good faith examples, can hopefully be dealt with in the time honored tradition of using the WOMD.
I was more concerned about some of the advice I've seen given that encourages poor practices in site design and promotion, some of which can easily lead to sites being dropped from the search engine data bases, or heavily penalized.
I hope very much that this section of here can become a place of learning "best practices" in web design and internet marketing.
We all can benefit from that.
Answer
Kenlee great post I agree 100%. I removed my sig because I wasn't sure you were not talking about me since I post a lot here.
Answer
Mike,
Thanks and
YIKES.... I didn't mean to have you think that, or to drop your sig line.
I like the the websites in sig lines in general.
I was refering more to folks who might register, just to drop their urls, more for promotion than for really trying to get help, or offer it.
[add] I mean like those one-shot wonders who register just so they can drop a url and vanish. Ok, some of them vanish because Jim WOMDs em, but..... [/add]
