Question
I am working on a small site. It's a free godaddy web site. It has 5 pages.
So far I have one page that is going to be an intro page, one about fabrics, one about my FPLP and a about me page (sounds like ebay )
Regarding links: I was putting all the links to different sites on my about me page. I don't have a lot of links. I have one for here, My sisters site, my PSP Groups, DOUA to name a few. Some are graphic links, some are text links.
Are you saying instead of putting all the links on one page, my about me/links page, that I should put "fabric/craft' related links on the fabric page? FPLP and toy links on the FPLP page?
So if I aksed Elaine, who sells quilt items if she wanted to trade links, I should put her link on the fabric page and not the about me page?
Answer
You will both benefit from a link exchange placed on relevant pages... your link partner will probably benefit slightly more, however.
For example:
I have a web site based around fabric. I ask to trade links with you... I have a page with all of my link partners on it, regardless of what their site is about. I put your link there. You, however, have a page specifically about fabric and place my link there. My site will benefit more than your site (In the search engines eyes) because a "fabric" related page linked to a "fabric site". Of course some of this is conjecture because we have no way of knowing the weight Google places on relevant pages versus relevant sites.
Our web site is self-promoting... I can't have our link partners links scattered about different pages, as it would confuse our customers. However, if I had a site that was just a "personal" web site, I would choose to place pertinent links on relevant pages... you can't go wrong doing it that way.
The basic answer to your final question would be "yes"... you may be doing Elaine a slightly "bigger" favor.
Cheers
Answer
Spreading links across multiple pages makes sense as it appears like a natural linking development as it is safe to say that not everyone that wishes to link to your site would choose to link to the same page but more likely to the page that best supports their own page.
