Question
Hi everyone,
I'm in the middle of setting up an e-commerce store using
OSCommerce and I'm having problems with the PayPal cart.
It will accept payments but doesn't tell the buyer (or me) what
item they have ordered. I'm looking for someone that can help
me get this straightened out and of course I'm willing to pay.
I might also want some help installing/configuring some
OSCommerce contributions, but that's not my highest priority.
I thought perhaps among you all, someone might be able to
recommend someone. I've already contacted Sharon and she doesn't
do osCommerce, so that's out.
TIA

Dorothy used to post here.
The site says 'ecommerce' but it isn't clear to me what sort of shopping cart they support. You might want to contact them and see what they offer.

I like this program for what it's worth. There's another thread onboard here which Jill is using now. X Cart is the upgrade and Sharon can help with that.

Right now Litecommerce is giving my host nightmares with constant 500 internal server errors. This since I added the security certificate. They are working on it, but I am not holding my breath.
I am now working on Zencart. So far its been fairly flawless. The forums are extremely helpful and have helped me figure out a number of things. Got taxes, shipping, payments etc. all done, which are always the hardest to figure out on any of these carts.
Now I attack the look and feel of the pages. After all that is done, I'll start uploading products.
Hopefully they will find out what my problem is with Lite Commerce. I was quite impressed with it until we ran into this hassle.
As regards to getting help with osCommerce, you should go to their forums at:
http://forums.oscommerce.com/
That would be the best place to first search out your problem and then ask questions.

Jill, the osCommerce forums are full of code-heads who apparently were born with all this stuff in their head already and don't speak regular English. I've tried their forums, and got no help, at least nots that I could understand. That's why I'm looking to hire someone.
Thanks to all for suggesting alternatives, but I don't think that Litecommerce, zencart, x-cart etc would help me because I already have about 600 items loaded into the new website and I don't want to redo all that work. I need to sort out the osCommerce stuff, not get an alternative to OSC. I'm looking for a person to do some customization to osCommerce, not a software program....

I run OsCommerce and the paypal cart (though I don't remember exactly which version of that mod I am running).
Here are a few suggestions:
1 - Check and dbl-check all of the paypal options under your admin panel. There is an option for exactly how Osc hands off the data to paypal - aggregate cart or individually listed - if one isn't working, try the other.
2 - There may be some setup required on the paypal side as well. It's been a number of years since I set this up, but I do remember I had to make a few changes on the paypal side (preferences). Read the docs that came with your paypal mod very carefully.
3 - If all else fails, go thru the entire installation procedure again from scratch. Even a small typo can make a huge difference. I recently had a problem with a discount coupon mod - redid the whole thing from the start, and it worked perfectly (I still don't know what I did wrong the first time...lol)
4 - Most often one of the biggest issues with Osc mods is that they conflict with some other Osc mod you installed previously - look over any other mods and see if they had to change any code in any of the same files.
Hope that helps!
Rich

Zencart will allow you import oscommerce stock. You could probably find someone on the oscommerce forums though to hire. Figure that would be the best place.
