Hello everyone. I am new here and have lots of questions. One of them is about pagerank. I have been at PR3 for a long time but can't seem to get a higher ranking no matter what. I am found on search engines 1 - 3 depending of the term seached of course so my two questions are how can I increase my pr ranking and does it really make that much difference.
thanks
Elizabeth
Answer
PageRank is no longer 'accurate'.
What you see in the green bar is not necessarily your REAL page rank.
Google updates a portion of the pagerank every 3-4 months now it seems, but it's not accurate. Hasn't been for many, many months.
Linking is still very important.
Having other RELEVANT sites (similar to topic of yours) linking to you is still very valuable to Google.
The important factor is where one 'ranks' in the search engine returns. (That is, when I search for what you're selling, where are you located?) This placement can be improved by getting quality links to your site from relevant sites and adding (and adding) content - either items for sale, articles, etc.
Make sure that your site is easy to spider and that pages are well inter-linked within the site. Optimize each page, use a variety of appropriate keywords, etc. Over time, you should see an improvement.

Kathleen is 100% correct. It's SERPS (search engine results) that make sales not pagerank. Google has started playing tricks with Seo's over the last year. They don't like their results to be manipulated by search engine guru's. I completely ignore pagerank.

Its not up to date. I think there must be some association with PageRank indicating ranking. At one point this may have been true, but the methods for ranking sites is always changing. So, you have to continually educate yourself.
