Selling a Domain Name?

Question
I've got a domain name that I no longer need, and was wondering if anyone knows how I would go about selling it. How do I transfer it out of my name and into the new owner's name? Where would be the best place to advertise that it's for sale?
Thanks!

Answer
I do all my business with Godaddy and they have a page just with domains for sale. Some are actually sold on Ebay also. That is about the limit of my help on this subject. Good Luck
Mike

Answer
You don't have to sell it.
Let the domain expire - if it's wanted, someone will snatch it up.
I've also seen folks remove all content from the domain's website, leaving a message "This domain name is for sale."

Hi Moonrise: I have been buying and selling domains since 1997 and have found sedo.com to be excellent!!! (Godaddy also now has a domain sales page - I think it costs about $5 to register and then they take a small percentage when the domain is sold and you can also park a domain with a for sale sign at goDaddy.)
A wonderful thing about Sedo is that you can park a domain and post affiliate links or google adsense links and actually make money while your domain is parked.
Here's a link to the info:

I would never let one of my domain names expire, as older domains are valuable in that part of the algorithm google uses in ranking domains is the length of time they have been registered, so a lot of buyers look for domains that were registered several years ago. And if you can get traffic at your parked domain, its even better.
If you are serious about selling the domain it's good to list it in more than one location. In my experience. eBay has been about the worst place to sell a domain.
Here's links to two forums that allow you to post your domain name for sale.

There are lots more out there. To find more just do a google search using the term: forum + domain name sales (or something to that effect ) and you'll get lots of good links. (Just make sure to include the plus sign between the main term and the last search terms you use.)
Once the domain is sold you login to your registrar's account. (goDaddy is one of the easiest to use for transferring a domain name) and just follow the instructions as to how to complete the transfer. If you have used a registrar other than goDaddy most will have instructions on how to complete a transfer.
Good Luck!

Wow, thanks!

You can sell it on Registerfly. First you have to transfer it to them, I believe, but if you register as a user, you will receive emails about their specials, and sometimes you can transfer for $5 or less. And you get a lot of web space, email forwarding, whois protection, and loads of extras if you have your domain registered with them (useful until you sell it).
