Alternatives to paying a fortune to advertise on google or yahoo

Question
Does anyone have any other good alternatives that really work?
I have had some success with adspoon.com!
There you pay a monthly fee to advertise instead of high priced pay per click or pay per view, so it doesn't drain me financially!
Any other ones worth mentioning?

Answer
I would suggest you try to hook up with Mike (Cobaltlady). If he has time he seems to be happy to help and his advice is invaluable. On a level one can understand.
I hope I'm not talking out of turn Mike.

List your stuff with a classified on here's OCM. My sister and I were just reviewing the stats on our website and we are amazed with the increase in hits.
For instance, we've had 1742 hits to one product since we placed the classified to it on OCM in April 2005. This is compared to 1991 hits for the entire year to date. The whole site is like that...
I don't currently have a way in place to track where folks come from...but I have to believe it's mostly search engine placement and a few direct hits from here.

Goodworks his site is a auction site. I have been thinking how to respond to him. I guess the best way to put it is me trying to compete with Walmart. Not counting the hundreds of other auction sites going for a limited number of buyers and sellers. If I was going that route I think I would start with a small niche site and grow from there. For his needs there isn't a cheap way to advertise his site. He will get gobbled up by the big guys.

Answer
Good points, Mike.
Really, what he needs to do FIRST is register his affiliation with his site here before Jim cans his membership....
Then we can talk about the other stuff.
