Need help with roadrunner

Question
Okay in as small a nutshell as I can explain...
I've been using the limited space allotted from our roadrunner (rr)service to host a few images and it has been working fine for that. My rr page will only show a directory of the images and I can click the image copy the url and have the image show in ad. (I use a ws-tfp to load images to rr)
BUT I would like to have a page with text displayed and for the life of me can not figure out how to do that. And since we originally signed up for rr they changed their homepage here to where I can not find any original help for this.
So if anyone here could assist me I would appreciate it!

Answer
Hi Wildcat ~

Sounds like what you need to do is make a HTML page.
For a quick & dirty page just open a blank Notepad document,
Save As: (name whatever you want) and make two copies.
One with the .txt extension, and one with the .html extension.
.txt is your editable file page and .html is the one you will upload.

Use the basic HTML tags to format the page,
Heres an easy to follow tutorial:

When you have it set up the way you want it, save again and upload it to your space the same way you would your images.

Hope that helps!

*OH!* And I just found this page - not sure where you are but maybe this will get you some RR specific help if you still need it:

Answer
Hi Gem,
Well that sounds simply enough. I do know quite a bit of HTML for use in auctions. (Could have sworn I tried this when first signing up with rr and it didn't work)
But no harm in trying again Will try and update here the results!

Answer
Wildcat give it a try. I built my first 2 websites this way. Oh your home page will be index.html at least that's the way my ISP works. Then all other pages can be named widget.htm. Keep us posted.

Answer
Well 'close but no cigar!'
I created a word doc with html coding then saved copy as htm (the extension used by my microsoft word program for webpages). Then connected to ws-ftp program found the htm file I made uploaded, then I went to view it. I just get a page that has all the html coding I had used.
Gee I hope I am making SOME sense here. On my rr pages I only have an index listing the images are not displayed unless I click on that listing in the index. I guess that is what I need some help on as well.
If GEM or anyone else understands me and can offer any assistance to this 'grasshopper' I would appreciate it...in the meantime

Answer
It may seem like a small thing, but do as suggested:
Create a .txt document, not a .doc (or any other word processed format). Use Notepad if you're on a PC.
Working in that format, add your own html tags.
SAVE it as a .txt file.
Then go back and SAVE AS an .html file. To do that, in Save As Type select All Files (*.*) and then manually type the suffix .html after your File Name in the box above.
When you open the .txt version, it should come up as text, displayed in Notepad. When you open the .html file, it should open in whatever browser you default to, as an HTML document (not text).
The .html version is the one to FTP to Roadrunner, but I'll not guess what the file name format needs to be.

Answer
THANKS to ALL!
I still working on this but it appears that indeed it HAD to be a txt first (I had the darnest time finding notepad as I just pull up word anytime I need something). Then renaming. Then trying to find it through the ws-ftp program.
You all are great! May try to rework the whole thing at some point as everything under my rr comes up as index but at least I'm beginning to get there from here

Answer
You just keep plugging away. The light will come on soon and you will be so pleased with your success. Whatever you do don't give up. Just return here with questions you will get help.

Answer
One small thing to be aware of...
Index.html is a default page. It will show that instead of the directory listing. If you still need to get to the directory listing, you should name it something else.

Answer
Glad you got it to take

And what Cobaltlady said! - you get so proud of yourself for accomplishing something you were having trouble with it inspires you to take the next step and the next, etc.

Oh and thanks for posting this - I have RoadRunner and have never used the email or anything - I just use it to get online - but if I got free space coming to me, by golly I am THERE!
