I'm excited about hosting this forum. I feel like a kid with a new Christmas toy. This will be a blast!
The first thing I want to know is what do YOU want to see here?
If you already have a website, what's the one thing that you'd like to make easier? Or that you would like to do, but don't know exactly how?
If you don't have a website, what's the one thing that's holding you back?
Answer
I have in my mind two ideas for this forum. I can't decide which is most useful, interesting and thought-provoking. There's possibly some other aspect that might be even better.
I'm thinking about a series of discussions, perhaps doing one a day or every few days. Possibly even getting sidetracked into something else. Here's the subjects I have in mind:
Producing a website
- cost analysis
- setting up resources
- collecting web building tools
- designing the website
- setting up a prototype to play with
- testing and revising
- presenting it to the world
- maintenance and upkeep
Writing a website
- basic "Hello World" page
- adding color
- adding images
- tables
- controlling spacing
- designing for everyone
- to database or not to database
- incorporating a shopping cart
What do you think? Does it suck? Any usefulness at all?
Answer
Hi,
I like the topics you have listed, especially the upper tier of writing a website (the database, shopping cart, etc) but even the "basics" would be of interest to me. I think even if you have a site and feel pretty confident/experienced, you can always find something that makes you go "Heyyyy, I never knew that" or "Ahhhh, that will be easier than the way I've BEEN doing it".
I already feel very behind with all my want-to, need-to web-reading
so daily might be too much, but once a week I could probably handle.
But yes, definitely I think alot of these topics would be very useful - for beginners and the more experienced as well. And thanks again for taking on the forum - I hope there will be a higher level of participation in these basement floors now that there's people "in charge" of most of them ...

I want to learn more about Cascading Style Sheets
Answer
Ok, somewhere in there I'll add the whole ball of wax about CSS. It's fun and makes life much easier. I've never found an online tutorial or reference that I really like, though.

I think this is wonderful! I'm interested in everything you mention.
Right now my focus is on getting our website fully functional and operating.
I love all this stuff, but I tend to make it more complicated than it is.
I'm also very interested in CSS I've read a few tutorials, and have a very basic understanding, but not much more than that.
