Need HELP!!!....Have website need to redirect and don't have a clue how to!

Question
Really need some help with getting my idea from "an idea" to reality.....
I have a website thru citymax....Needed to use a longer name that I would have liked, but it's a good rep of the biz....The store is located on "Main Street" 2 blocks from the train station, which means that there is serious traffic slowdown (and lots of backed up, stopped traffic) right in front of the store....What I want to do is to letter the front window with a much shorter, easy to remember website addy..I have both names registered thru Godaddy, but need to set up the shorter name to redirect to the website (shorter name is really just a "director" vs an actual website)....
I'm lost on how to make this happen......
Any/all suggestions/directions would be GREATLY appreciated!...
Tia

Answer
Hopefully, one of the following sites/threads will be able to walk you through this.
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...a+301+redirect
The easiest I've found (using the above link) is:
You could also simply add this command into the header of the index page that you want redirected:
Code:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=http://www.your_site_url.com">

Of course be sure to replace "http://www.your_site_url.com" with the url you wish to redirect to.

Phoenix: There are a couple of things you could do. First off, read the info Kathleen posted. Lots of good info there.
Also, you might be able to change your domain on Citymax to the shorter one you want to use outside your store. Check with them and see.
The other thing that you can consider is posting a mini-website using your shorter domain with links to your main site.
Jill (from here) posted a reference to pricewise hosting, I checked them out, and they have been great! Pricewise Hosting is a small Canadian company and Gary, the owner, actually answers your emails personally if you have a question. (I have a site posted there that I did for a friend http://www.eganvilletearoom.com - that's a template site - purchased the template from basictemplates.com for $5) and it's costing just a little over $12 a year at pricewise to host it for the site owner. They have a fantastic summer sale on right now so take a minute to check them out. Here's the scoop:

» 1 GIG Monthly Traffic
» Unlimited email accounts
» Unlimited Domains
A mini-website is excellent for directing traffic to your site. You just need a small description of the site, your contact info and a link to your main site.
If you need help posting a mini-site let me know and I could do one for you in very short order if you had the graphics and info you wanted posted there.

Answer
Now that's what I call a great offer. That is why this site wins hands-down.

Answer
Shanne, the site you mentioned is very attractive, with good-looking code too. I'm studying it to learn. The "content & management" line is a good idea.

Answer
Thank you all for your suggestions (and offers of help!).....I've been so busy the past couple of days I haven't had a chance to even look at the links...Will try tomorrow night...
