Question
Let's talk about our own extra special "touches" that customers (or potential customers" appreciate)!
When a cusomter emails us about something not quite related to what we sell, I always do a quick Google search for them (amazing how many shoppers don't know how to do that well), and send them links to find what they need. I also explain what we DO sell.
I get quite a few notes back about how grateful they are, and that they are bookmarking our website for future use! SO many say - "no one ever writes back"...
Don't miss ANY opportunity to market your business!

This is so true - even when you get a question that you can't answer or has nothing to do with your business or what you offer (the email equivalent of a wrong number? hehe) it only takes a minute to reply and say, "Thank you for your question/interest in my /whatever/ ... I'm sorry I can't be of help to you right now but here are some links you might try. Good luck and please keep me in mind should you ever need /whatever/!"
I have done those things quite often - supplying links and a bit of explanation when it seemed needed. And I'm not talking about in-depth research or tutorial sessions, just a quick "here's what I was able to find, you might try a better search..." etc - Not everyone online is as net savvy as we are, and it's easy to forget that sometimes! You can be helpful even when you technically end up sending them away - I think it really does help stick YOU in the customers mind and when they do need what you offer, hopefully you'll be the first place they come to.
So, what else?
- In my graphics work, if it is a small job I may include an extra button or graphic for free - sometimes in the case where they cannot decide between say, two store logos for their final design, I'll usually let them keep both.
- My notecards I always include an extra card, of a different design than their chosen set.
- In my TitleTrader book swaps I got the idea to include a bookmark I made with the outgoing book as a thank you - so I would do that with books I'm selling now too, if I were selling any!
Little things that really don't take much time or effort on my part, but I think make a nice impression on the customer, client.
Great thread, Joan!
I'll add more as I think of them, and hope everyone else will too!
It might be something that you've done forever and don't think twice about, but if you share the idea someone else may go "Oh! I never thought of that!"
So please share yours!

this is a great topic
one thing we do is when ever we go to a client with an order we take our kit with us to do resizing right there. We have had several customers at shows need a piece shorter or with a diffrent clasp and we are able to do those small changes right there no waiting.
I also try to overestimate the time it will take for custom orders if I run into problems I don't have to tell the customer it will be late and I usally get them done early that make our customers happy.
when ever someone orders from us online they always get there jewelry packaged nicely in a box with tulle, and tissue and all items are shipped in a med size box.
I include two busness cards as well with each order.

YES!
What a great way to educate our customer about the other things we sell. One might even consider a small catalog, a postcard, or even a logo magnet. There are several internet printing companies on whose websites you can design your own full color, two-sided postcards, or a calendar magnet. The more of an impression we make on our customers, the more likely they are to pass on our name and buy from us again.

Kathleen - we actually USE Vistaprint, but I did not want to actually promote one company (was not sure of proper etiquette). We have been very pleased with their quality AND prices.

I cannot figure out why my sig is showing on my first post and not on my last one. It shows on the preview...odd. Anyone know why?
Answer
Hiya Joan,
The signature lines are set up that way boardwide -
they will only show up in your first post to a thread.
*Oh! and you can feel free to link to sites or companies that you've had good experiences with - we all know you're not a spammer!
