Question
I'm trying to figure out how to put the shopping cart on my website.
My site is on godaddy and uses a SQL database for inventory. I have a gateway through FastCharge. We have a friend that does website stuff and he set it up. He set up paypal because that was the easiest thing at the time (we didn't have a merchant account then).
Anyway, I feel really dumb I can't seem to figure this out. I know basic html. My friend uses Dreamweaver and I was able to get it at a good price, so I did. I know VERY little about databases and SQL. I've been trying to learn FAST. I'm using Mal's shopping cart. Seems simple, but I can't get it.
I know I'm just not getting something that's probably simple or common sense. I've read some tutorials and the forums and info on Mal's, but it's just not sinking in. More than likely I'm trying to make it more difficult than it is.
I thought I did it, but obviously not. If you want to look, our website is www.strummersmusic.com (not given for sales purposes, I really need help )
Hopefully I will wake up well rested and ready to tackle this. It's my goal for Tuesday

Answer
Well I'm stumped. I don't see any links on the website to Mals. They all go to payPal. Can you tell us exactly what kind of problems you're having?
Answer
That's my problem. I'm not understanding where to put the link. My friend who did the site is not able to help anymore. Which is fine, as I REALLY want to learn this stuff. How do I reference the database so the shopping cart knows which product is being purchase.
Am I making this more complicated than it is?
It's the "Click to Continue" on the catalog product page that I tried to do. It was supposed to be "view cart".
Thanks for the help.
I feel refreshed from sleep and ready to tackle this today.

Answer
I'm not going to be using Mal's. I finally figured out my confusion. I needed to upload all my product to their website. That just won't work.
I was directed to OSCommerce and I'm downloading it now. We'll see how that works.
Answer
I need to ADD a shopping cart to my website. I'm ok with basic HTML but that's about as far as it goes. I guess I need a "Shopping Cart for Dummies".
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like it to be able to process PayPal payments but also allow for payment by check/money order. Also, shipping cost would vary with the country of destination since I sell worldwide.
Any recommendations for an easy to figure out one?
Thanks,
Answer
Mals.

Checks, money orders, bank wire, PayPal, and/OR credit cards via a merchant account or credit card processing service - I use ProPay.
Shipping costs can be configured via state, country, weight, amount, etc.
If you need a database driven shopping cart, then I unfortunately can't help.
Answer
It doesn't look like oscommerce will work either.
I already have a website up with a database on it. It's an SQL database.
It seems oscommerce is a full fledged store utility, not just a shopping cart.
Is it possible to *add* a shopping cart to what I have? Am I going to have to redo all the work we have already done?
Thanks for any help!

Answer
you're right, I use oscommerce and it is a full store including shopping cart and database. Is there anyway to import your database to it or just add your inventory?
paypal has a shopping cart, have never used it so can't say how it works.

Answer
I probably could import my database, but I hope to not do that. A friend and I worked many weeks (months?) on this and we have the site set up how we would like it.
However, if I can't figure out any other option, I may just do this. If only I had known that I put the cart before the horse, I would have done things differently.
Oh well, I sure have learned alot
