Question
I'm building a site for a new product I will be selling online. How do you put a shopping cart on your web site, and how do you get it to automatically add on shipping and tax? I will be accepting credit cards only thru Paypal and I know how to add a Paypal button, but I don't know how to add a shopping cart. Can this be done without knowing a lot of html? I'm using site builder software to build this site, as I don't know html.
Answer
If you are using PayPal
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...-intro-outside
read that page (links on the left too)
will show you how to add the add to cart buttons and set up your shopping cart on your website. it is basically cut and paste code so you don't really need to know much about HTML to use it.
Not sure how to do any other shopping carts. I think you have to pay for the shopping cart software or something like that.
Sharon would know more about that since she works with e-commerce sites.
Answer
Adding the Paypal buttons to purchase product and the "view cart" buttons would be all you'd need to do if you're using the Paypal shopping cart system.
That's what I have on my website and it works very well for me.
Answer
You can also use Mals cart with Paypal plus get a email order for checks and money orders. I currently use it on one site and once you get it set up and figured out it's a piece of cake.

Thanks!
Didn't even realize Paypal had their own shopping cart. Maybe I oughtta visit their site and see what's new every now and then. I don't think I've been over there just looking around in at least a year or three.

Define "piece of cake". :-)
On a scale of 1 to 10 . . . .
I tried zen cart this summer. You'll note the term tried. I did not succeed. I failed.
But I signed up for mal's last night. I've been told it's *not hard* but *not hard* is such a relative thing.
How long did it take you to get set up? (So I can multiply that by 5 or 6 to get some sort of estimate for me. )
Are you still using it? Any tips?
Beth
Answer
we use mals-e.com, its great, at first it seems real complicated, but with mals's forums its much easier, you'll definitely have questions.
Answer
Beth, I have mals on my website. If I can do it, so can you!
Answer
The part that confused me at first was the concept. You set up all your settings on Mal's site first. Then you get a short script of code to paste on your site. You save that code and on mine I just change 3 lines each time. The item number, item name and price and paste it in.

I'm sure I'll have LOTS of questions. :-) I have a lot of *other job* deadlines this week. With that and trying to get some resolution to my hacker issue, it will likley be next week before I can really start to play around with it!
TAQ - I've been using eCrater for my off eBay store. I somehow suspect mals is a little more complex!
