Question
Google Adwords is a great program to get visitors and sales. You can use Adwords if your site is new or doesn't have good keyword placement in the regular search. You can set your daily budget (limit) so you control how much you want to spend. I sorta look at this as my "listing fees" since I no longer list on Ebay. If you look at a Google search page the results on the right are Adwords. You will notice all the big boys use Adwords Ebay, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart ect.
When someone clicks on your ad you are charged a PPC (pay per click). Now for costs that really depends on your competition. For example most of my clicks are .05-.15 there are a couple that I go as high as .20. Those are mostly for mugs. The engravers run that one up. My monthly budget is $40-$50. To give you more examples I think jewelry is sorta expensive .35-.75 per click. Now don't let this scare you because there are tricks you can use to keep cost down and still get a few clicks. You want to use 2-3 word phrases to get good quality clicks. If you used keyword "widgets" you would get a bunch of clicks but no sales however if you used "skinny red widgets" you would get less clicks but more sales. The object here is sales not clicks.
Here is link where you can try it out. You can go thru the first 3-4 steps without making any commitment. You can get a general idea what it's like. Just click on the box 1/2 way down page slightly on the right "click to begin"

If there is interest in this topic I will post more. I don't type so this is really tough on my one finger but if enough are interested I will keep posting more details.

Answer
Do you let your ads run on content sites (Adsense)?

I don't.
Answer
I did for a while but decided to stop. I had a gut feeling it was a waste of clicks. I use Adwords for 4 sites mainly only for keywords that aren't page one in Serps or for mispellings like we are discussing on the other board.

Mike,
Jewelry just happens to be the one thing I was interested in, and I'd like some opinions on which adwords to get.
I have a subspecialty bordering on specialty in vintage men's jewelry, and that's what I really want to promote.
Can I get the term "cuff links" and/or "tie tack" "tie clasp" and "tie tac", or should I go more generic, like men's jewelry? Also, should I get something that says vintage men's jewelry?
Exactly how do you choose terminology like that. If the clicks are more expensive, I really need to get the most bang for the buck!
TIA!

Answer
Here's what I came up with:
cuff links .50
tie tack .40
tie clasp .20
tie tac .30
mens jewelry .50
vintage mens jewelry .05
Google estimates your daily cost on those words would be 21 clicks at a cost of $8.70...with the 2 best words being "cuff links" and "mens jewelry"
Answer
I would say for a Adgroup to be successful you will need a large selection. If for example you have only 4 "widgets" then your chances of getting a sale are poor compared to having 25 "widgets" of various sizes and colors. Now this would not apply to a "rare" item such as a 1909 Honus Wagner ball card.
Answer
This is a good chance to discuss both spelling and keyword choices. Google lists the following results for Cuff links/Cufflinks.
They show the spell check when Cuff Links is searched for.
Cuff Links shows 600,000 results on Google
CuffLinks shows 676,000 results on Google
Diamond cufflinks shows 129,000 results
Diamond cuff links shows 137,000 results
Gold cufflinks shows 229,000 results
Gold cuff links shows 208,800 results
Antique cufflinks shows 58,400 results
Antique cuff links shows 51,600 results
Antique diamond cufflinks shows 42,700 results.
Cufflinks/cuff links is a the most competitive search term of this group.
But by narrowing the search down by using a modifying word, gold, diamond, antique etc. the competition dwindles away fairly rapidly.
By the time you get to antique cufflinks/cuff links you may not need touse adwords at all.
The idea here is to have a page for each search term if possible.
That's more work in the beginning, but can pay off very well in the long run.
Answer
Well,
Kenlee and Mike, you talked me into it.
I opened an adword account, and started with one group of adwords. I will edit them as I see fit in the next month or so. I budgeted $35.00 a month to this, so it will not break the bank if it does not fly.
I will keep you posted as to what our results appear to be.
Interesting side note, our Google page rank went from 4 to 5. I am not sure if this is related, but I suspect so.
