Question
Hello,
I could use some help from anyone willing to lend me their time and advice on my website. I finished creating it and was wondering if the first page looks ok, or is it missing something.
I cant seem to leave this page alone, I feel like it might need more, but back of my mind I hear, "less is more"...please help me out.
Will be very thankful.

Answer
Brian, there are many small typographical and grammatical errors on your page. I have not clicked to go anywhere else. The main problem is with plurals, possessives and apostrophes. All easy to fix, and in my opinion would make a HUGE difference in the way people perceive your page.
Answer
I think maybe the thing that's bothering you is the colors. They don't match the rest of the site.
I like the colors and graphics on the front page. They look great.
I like the colors on the rest of the pages--but they don't match.
First thing that went through my mind when I clicked "Enter" was "What happened?" Then I looked around and realized I was on Andale. Not a thing wrong with that, but you need to make it transparent to the viewer..that means the color, style, and content should be similar. It should never occur to the viewer that they've gone to a different website.
If you want a few layout suggestions....
The "Enter" button is way too far down the page. Most people don't scroll. It took me a few seconds to realize there wasn't a way in, then I scrolled to see if there was more at the bottom.
Most people won't read text. Sad, but true. Think about the last time you were in a store. Did you read anything about what you were buying? Of course not. You looked at the price. You looked at the widget back, front, side, top, and bottom. You didn't read the tags at all. The only exception is if you needed to know a specific thing, like what kind of material it was made from. Then you skimmed the text on the box until you found that info.
The highlighted links with a different color are great. Makes them stand out and people can find them easily. But IF you MUST go with paragraphs of text, don't expect your customer to read or remember anything you said there.
Try setting the page up in two colums, with the "Enter" button and navigation links on the left side, and the text on the right. And you do need a spell checker.
Answer
Hello,
Thanks for taking the time out and giving your advice. The reason for some of the things mentioned to be fixed, I will explain:
The reason for the large content, is because I have read over and over again that search engines love when a page has large amounts of text/content.
I also agree on there being too much content, but as explained above. I guess what I can do is bring the enter button higher, and leave the content just for search engines.
As for the color, well...andale did not think people would want to adjust their own store to how they want it, so when they made andale they only give you templates to choose.
They have said the next andale update will have the option to adjust, so I have no other thig but to wait and look like a fool to my customers...it really suxs...
What about the banner at top...I woulld like to make it better but not sure what to do...I hate this...I could look at anyone else site or build anyone else site and just finish it, when it comes to mine thu, I just seem to think it should be better.
Again, thanks for all the help and advice.

Answer
Heck, I think the banner at the top is the best thing on the page.
Answer
Hi
My two cents and I don't know a lot.
I am just learning about this stuff too.
I like the banner colors.
I kept running my mouse over the banner it so I could click
it to enter the store...habit I guess.
I agree about needing to fix spelling etc...
man should be men. My eyes kept picking up on "man"
instead of reading your information.
Answer
Hello,
The main reason for the misspelling...and not sure if its worth it or not, but when I created the site I went to a site to look up certain words most often searched for, and the word man was searched for a lot more then men.
So to help with my keyword content I thought to leave it and thought it would not stop a person for buying.

Answer
Brian,
I like your banner at the top of the page...very nice.
As previously noted, it would be good to have the store colors match your page colors.
Can you include a smaller version of your banner at the top of the Andale pages?
The text for your testimonials is floating up into your pictures on some monitors/browsers. If you remove the absolute positioning it should solve that problem.
And I would definately not misspell men...
Just be a bit creative... such as "Ladies, buy your man that leather jacket he's been wanting! or "Any man would love to wear this jacket."

Answer
You might want to select a different name for your category "antiquities" I looked there expecting antiquities and found all new items. Buyers who might want the absinthe and LOTR swords are not likely to even look in a category named antiquities.
I liked the pictures of the coats- very sharp.
Answer
Hello everyone,
Wow...thanks for all the help. I have some more questions. Sharon, yo mention about the feedback riding into the pic I have...you also mention about it shows up on some browser/monitors...what did you do to chck this?
The problem with that, was when I made the feedback in dreamweaver and placed it where I wanted it, it showed up wrong in the preview, so when I moved it to a totally wrong spot, it would show up just right.
So I dont know how to fix this problem and was hoping what you saw did not show...would really like to clear this problem up cause it coms off very unprofessional.
PS: You truly like the banner, and dont think it looks a bit newbie ish? I would like to get that clear crisp look you see on professional sites like macy's, ibm, etc.
ALso thanks for advice on swords being in wrong place...
