Question
Please bear with me. I'm sooo new to this web site stuff.
I have a question about using 'meta content'.
I opened a Prestostore and it is so easy to use that I was amazed. They do a weekly Froogle feed and I think they submit to some other search engines. They have a promotion area where you can create your meta content but I'm a little unsure of just what to put in there.
Just all sorts of descriptive words about your items? And is there a limit to how many? I could go on all day entering 'meta content', so I don't want to go through all that and then have them say it's too many.
Also, can this be edited after it's submitted? Can you change the words?
I got help with a store description and I'm happy with that.
And about search engine submission. They say I can do my own if I want to, and I found a submission site called AddMe. Has anyone heard of it? Any opinions?
They have a deal where they'll submit your site to up to 1500 search engines (I know a lot of them are probably obscure) every month for a year for $49.95. Good deal? Or not?
I'm anxious to get this done so I can just concentrate on adding items to the store.
Thanks all. I'm so glad this forum was started.

There are 3 "meta tags" that are normally found on websites. The title tag being the most important. Then the description tag is second and keyword tag is third. Title tag should be appox 12 words, description tag about 24 words. As for paying for search engine submission they are just stealing your money. All you need are a couple of links from a couple of established sites and bingo you will be spidered by the search engines for free.
DON'T get your site indexed before you are ready. If Google indexes a site under construction it will be a long time before they visit again.

Hi Cobaltlady,
What do you you think about the following site and their advice:

Answer
The article appears to be a little dated but excellent advice. Only part I had a problem with was keywords in url. I think he is wrong on that part. Another part I had a problem with was frames. There is a lot I don't understand about frames but I can only say EVERY site I have viewed that used frames all pages except homepage had a PR0. I just advise everyone to stay away from frames unless you really understand how they work. A lot of Ecommerce sites with inventory control use them. One other thing he didn't cover very well was links. They are very important to search engines.

Hi Mike, and thanks. Can you tell me more about what you mean by under construction?
I have my pages pretty much the way I want them. And I have about 56 items in my store. I will be adding new items everyday and also some new sub-categories. Is this a problem?
And as far as getting indexed?? I have no idea. I only know that prestostore does some promoting, but other than that I don't know when or where other than Froogle.
Title tag? This, too, I don't know about. I did a view source on my home page and see my store name between <title> </title>. Is this what you mean?
Thanks for your patience. It may take a while, but I do finally 'get it'.

Hi Cobaltlady,
Thank you for sharing your opinion.
I enjoy reading your advice on SEO.
One day I hope to set up my own website.

Thanks grumpygramp I'm pleased that someone besides myself reads my posts. The best advice I can give you and you seem to be doing is read and then read some more. That being said I recommend you start to work on your site because one factor in rankings is the age (seniority) of the site. Plus you have so many here willing to help you.
