Answer
I recommend Godaddy. If another study group starts up you need to join. Maybe start here with a few questions at a time. Website A-Z is a little too much.
Answer
Sorry Cobalt, I guess that would be alot of info to post here. I was hoping for brief info or pointing me in the right direction would help.
You mentioned a study group, where? On here?
Why do you like Godaddy?
Answer
Yes we have a closed study group. Its on the main board near the bottom just below special interests. Ray has mentioned starting another because of all the people bailing out of Ebay.
I have 5 websites on Godaddy and love them. I am currently helping a group build basic website using Godaddy. The total cost is going to be $47 a year including free shopping cart. Godaddy's customer service is outstanding.
Answer
Cobaltlady, Thanks alot for your input! how will I know when the new study group opens? It sounds interesting.
I like the sound of godaddy. Do they offer pay pal for shopping cart? I would prefer pay pal, Its just a trust issue with me since I have never had a problem with pay pal.
BTW, what is a good shopping cart system?
Answer
Here is a shopping cart that is fairly cheap (as in FREE). It has Paypal and the option for checks and money orders. I just set it up on a new website and have had sales both with Paypal and a check order and it worked just fine. It did take me the better part of a day to figure it out. If you need help let me know.

Answer
Wow, thanks Mike! I sure do appreciate that. I checked it out and did the dummy checkout thing and it worked fine. Seems simple enough.
I wonder, if using this shopping cart, could you take other payment methods such as billpay or bidpay or whatever along with the pay pal? ( using multiple payments methods with this shopping cart).
I noticed it mentioned 3, but I wondered about more. I will go back and read it and the forums more when I have more time.
Thanks again Mike

For all the newbies out there who, like me, are just starting out without a clue of where to start and what to do next, I found these sites very helpful.

If you are brand spanking new to the whole process I recommend a host that has good "one on one" customer service.
Sharon from www.sharlyndesign.com is great for that and she also does e-commerce sites.
I think the best step x step process is to
1. find a domain name you like and purchase it. Make sure you are buying it from a reputible seller (sharon also sells these) and that you OWN the name so you can take it with you if you ever want to change hosts.
2. find some hosting. figure out how much space you will need to host your photos and html pages. figure out how much traffic you plan to have so you can estimate your bandwidth (what is used each time someone looks at your site) You will want a host that has a decent "up time" history - not good to have a site that wont load because their servers are down.
3. find either WYSIWYG software to build your own website or have one built for you. (wysiwyg = what you see is what you get)
4. find a good FTP software. you are going to need this to connect to your host space and manage your files. You will be loading images and html files to this space and the best way to do that is with an FTP program. WS-FTP pro is great... Ace FTP is said to be great too. (not used it)
5. get it launched and into the search engines.
6. ENJOY!
Answer
Thanks so much Tanya That helps point me in the right direction, I wasnt sure about the order of things, so you helped alot. Yes, I am brand spanking new!
BTW, Is FTP a place to upload your images? If so, I already have Sparedollar, could I use that?
Oh and since I have been reading that alot of people have multiple websites, do you have to have a dba for each? Or is it that they are only using different domain names?
