working on my new website design - question about rollovers

Question
Howdy,
I wanted to know how fast the rollovers load on this new design I am working on.
I also wanted to know if it is obvious what the rollovers are. LOL
I am trying something new.

Thanks for any input or critisim.. I am all ears.
(ok so I am all nose and teeth too but we wont talk about that)

Answer
What's a rollover? The page loads like lightning.

Answer
when you roll your mouse over the navigation buttons there is a change in the logo on the page.
I wanted it to be subtle but after talking to someone today I am wondering if it is too subtle.

Answer
Coooooool. But I would have been looking for a long time if you hadn't told me what to look for.
But then according to my wife I am a typical man and I don't notice anything.

Answer
The page loads fast, but it would take me two or three visits to notice the mouseovers.
Thought I'd mention, too, that there's the tiniest bit of difference in background color between the logo , menu, and the rest of the page.

Answer
I was waiting for the buttons to change color, or a different text to appear.
I did not notice the "twinkles" until you mentioned a slight difference somewhere...my eyes were focused on the buttons for a change. I guess it's just something we are used to...moving over a button and expecting change.
I do like the twinkle....maybe just let it do it without having to roll over the buttons?
(I probably didn't say it right but you know what I mean. )

Answer
Tanya I noticed the "twinkles" right away and I liked it...I think its different and cool...You always do great work so this dosent surprise me at all
Maybe you can make the buttons "twinkle" also with the rollover or do you think thats to much twinkling lol

Answer
LOL Jointrunner. I am sure that you are very observant my design is just too subtle.
which was "kinda" what I was going for. (sort of like finding an easter egg in a software program) hehe only thing is - I don't want it to be so subtle that it never gets found.
I can see it out of the corner of my eye when I put the mouse over the buttons which makes me look over to see what it is but then again I know it is there soooooooooo that could be why I see it.
Thank you Jayne!!! I will fix that. I hate doing transparents because of the weight issues but for some reason this color will not show well online with all browsers. It shows fine with IE but I am guessing that you are using Netscape or something else.
I gotta fix the text anyway. I just threw a bunch of stuff on there to get my thoughts down. It's a bit hodge podged right now.
Doobeedog, yep I know what you mean but I am not a big fan of constant twinkle. I will probably leave it and make it a game or something.
Angelnook! thank you very much! I am thinking of changing the buttons up all together so I might do something "extra" I just don't want to bog the page down with too many graphics.
When I do the rollover a new image has to load for each mouse over which can cause a big strain for dialupers.
Thanks again everyone. I will make some adjustments.

Answer
i never noticed the twinkles, they look good, and they're not annoying.
you could technically have them blinking all the time.

Answer
Tanya, I noticed the twinkle - but, of course, your post gave a hint to look for something. If it twinkled with every button (I think it's only coded to the top button?), I think it would be more noticeable, but a casual surfer would be hard-pressed to recognize the cause-effect relationship between mouse location and twinkling. i.e., I would probably assume it just twinkles randomly.
The twinkle effect is a really nice touch, and using mouse-over to invoke it keeps it from twinkling constantly like Vegas neon.
Just a thought, though - if a casual surfer lands on your page, they won't get a twinkle until they think about moving deeper into your site. From a psychological standpoint, they get "rewarded" for mousing over a button - but the undecided surfer won't get a twinkle-reward!
Nice design, and I giving your customers free links could be a selling point for you!
