Question for those who have web stores

Question
Hi
How do you figure your shipping?
On single items? On multiple items?

Answer
All of mine are figured on a "per item" basis (based on size/shape/weight of item/insurance and about a buck handling fee for packing supplies.)
If someone buys more than one item (which is common) and the total shipping will be LESS than the total combined individual shipping, I will usually "refund" the overage via PayPal (which is how 99.9% of my customers pay).
Unfortunately, almost all of the items are sell are "unique" in size, shape and weight, and therefore, a flat shipping fee for all items simply doesn't fit my business model.

Answer
I assign all items a weight, and then use a table method based on combined weight.

Answer
I assign items a weight also.
But I'm doing it in XCart which allows me to write formulas to take care of the possibilities.
It was a lot harder with paypal buttons. I finally did a chart, if I remember correctly, and put together manual invoices for multiple sales.

Answer
I do a flat rate shipping. Sometimes I have a little extra, sometimes I pay a little extra. Seems to work fairly well since the buyers know up front what the total is.

Answer
When I set up my web site, I went through catalogs & made my prices similar to theirs. Some times I make a little, sometimes I lose a little. Seems to all balance out

Answer
I solved the problem on one of my websites by just making everything be FREE shipping no matter how many things are purchased. It's worked very well so far
It makes the store setup very easy and the customer always knows exactly how much they'll be spending, even before checkout.

Answer
I'll pipe in here with Flat-rate shipping as I ship worldwide using letter rate Airmail mostly small collectibles...

Answer
Flat rate shipping based on the total $ amount of the sale - my website only handles US transactions right now so I haven't tackled international options yet.
