Finding a search software for website

Question
Hello All,
I am stymied and thought I would pop in to see if anyone had any thoughts on adding a custom search to their website.
I have a website with about 7000 items and hope to get it to 10,000. I have had several customer complaints on the search function returning blank pages and not performing correctly. When I email the host site they tell me to tell them to clear the cache. I fear though that it is on their end and my store may be to big for the search engine on their site.
I just love them though and do not want to move my store. Is there a software that you can get to search and use just on your site?
I get confused when I google it and I do not want all the junk that comes with the free ones.
If anyone has ideas or has gone thru this I would love to hear from you.

Answer
bumping this for you.
What sort of host or cart do you have?
(There was an earlier thread about a search module for XCart....)

Answer
Well, there's always the Google search, similar to what you see at the top of here with the two choices. I did a couple of searches of here using it and noticed there was no advertising with the search results.
I think the Google service is free but I don't know how you obtain it for your site.

Answer
Thanks!
My store is hosted thru www.netidnow.com which I love, it is great for the "website challenged", It is an out of the box store with a built in shopping cart. I love the search they have as it brings up the pics as well.
Most of what I found for site searchs just brings up "links" to what I have.
I have only had a few comment on it and it seems to be the ones who stay on for quite along time, I thought it was a cache problem but the last one told me that it should not be doing this and that it was possible my store inventory and volume of visitors ( I get about 3000 new visits a day) might be to big for my store host to handle. I emailed my host and they graciously told me "no" and I could put a 3rd party software on there if I thought I needed it.
Sales are great, customers keep buying so maybe I will just let it go. But will keep my eye open for it but just now "worry" about.
If anyone has anythoughts I would still love to hear them..... ( I may worry just a bit)

Answer
HI Irene,
I just checked into the google search and best I can tell it is $2000 to have it customized to your website.

Answer
That's a different service. Try reading here:
http://www.google.com/searchcode.html
Google Free is search that's fast, easy and yes, absolutely free
Treat your visitors to the same search service you use yourself. With Google Free, it costs nothing to provide Google search results to users who want to search the web or just your website.

Answer
Thanks~ I found it!
