Question
I read on one of the ebay groups I attend that stores being in search is being revisited by ebay. (Quote from the board: "As you know eBay announced officially that they are going to revisit the stores in main search thing.")
Did I miss something?
Anybody heard anything about this?
or is it old news?
Hazel
Answer
Hi Hazel,
Could you post a link to that particular thread which mentions that?
I'm not aware of ebay having any intention, either "official" or implied, of looking into (re)placing store items in the core search.
I'm still at a loss as to how they were losing money on the deal... store items get hit with a higher FVF... more store items sell, more money, right? Apparently their bean counters found something that I didn't.
February and March were fantastic for store sales... April, we dropped off the map. A quick glance at our books revealed this: March - ebay store items accounted for 14% of our sales.. April, it dropped to just over 2%. Having said that, sales were down across the board in April, as well.
Answer
I also thought some of it had to do with the drop in auction numbers when store sellers ditched auctions and put everything in their stores.
I wouldn't quarrel a bit if they decide to revisit the subject.
Answer
It's from a private board on ebay, so I don't think I can link.
I'm waiting to see if they can get me any other info....like where the official announcement was made.......or if it something alluded to on ebay radio, or in town hall etc.
That's why I asked here...this group is usually up on all the info & seems like stores possibly going back in searchs would have been caught by someone here.
(I on the other hand seem to miss the big announcements, till I find them here.)
If I get any other info, I'll let y'all know.

I had heard (read) that, too on the ebay boards... however, if that is the case (and it just may be), then that would basically say that ebay makes more off insertion fees than FVF's. Hmmm... me thinks ebay may have the inside scoop as to how poor auction sell-through's really are.
I hope they revisit the idea, as well.
Cheers

I too would love to see eBay reinstate store items into the regular search feature. And I feel that way both as a seller (primarily) and as a buyer. Why not be able to find all (or at least more) of the stuff that fits your search terms, instead of having the results arbitrarily cut off as they are now?
Answer
I'd like for them to just quit screwing around with it. While ebay said the search was rolled back to the way it was before they put stores in search, I don't believe it.
For example, I put my own id in under search for seller...and guess what...I didn't exist! Anywhere!
Search is screwed ip 6 ways from Sunday and they're going to screw it up again in some manner before they finally "settle" on whatever they're going to do.
I don't generally voice a lot of complaints and tend to roll with the flow but this one is getting on my last nerve.

I had a similiar experinece. I wanted to look at a template my friend was using, so I searched by seller. It said she hd no items listed.
Hmmmm - so I went into completeds, and it said she none of those either. Very odd.
So I clicked on the link that took me into her store, and there I could see that she did indeed have auctions running.
You're right - search is skewed six ways from Sunday.
I've said it before, but MEg said something in that MSNBC (?) "eBay Effect" video that made me think that Wall Street wants to see listing fees. If somebody has the video or a transcript I'll elaborate.

Why can't eBay just have a separate site for stores?
