You know what mummy's are, right? Well, whenever a pharoah or whatever dies, people wrap their bodies up in this white cloth thingy and the bodies are called mummy's.
So the boy couldn't tell whether his dad is a mummy or not. Get it? Mummy sounds like mommy.
