Question
Hi, has anyone here used DHL shipping service? I was thinking of trying them out but read many horror stories on epinions web site. Just wondering if anyone here has had a bad experience with them. Thanks for any info. Phyllis
Answer
I've never used them for shipping but I have been on the receiving end. I personally would never knowingly use them as a buyer for shipping if I could help it. A bank I was using in Florida (I live in NC) sent paperwork a few times through them and they were always a day or two later then they said it would be here.
I also ordered some shelving units online about a year or so ago that used DHL for shipping. I was tracking the shelves online and the day they were supposed to be here I saw where they had logged that the shelves were being returned to the store. I called the store where I had ordered them and told them for some reason they were marked as being returned to them. They cancelled that order and resent them through UPS at my request. I had them in hand 2 days later by UPS. The same day I got them DHL called and wanted to know the directions to my house. I told them the store had already sent me some more and to return them. Well, I really told them a lot more than that but to make a long story short. LOL
I live on the outskirts of my county and I think they were stalling hoping to have something else come in that needed to be delivered out this way to save on gas/trips. I live about an hour round trip from town. I haven't seen a DHL truck up here in a very long time. UPS is up here almost every day and Fedex a few times a week.
Answer
I've received some international shipments via DHL with no known problems (but I wasn't exactly expecting great speed when ordering green tea from China), but I've never tried to use them for shipping from here.
The DHL delivery people always seem surprised to find they are at the right house. But I'm like Hattiemarie, living quite far from the nearest DHL place.
Answer
We live too far away also. They do deliver here but don't know where they are out of.

Thanks to all for your quick responses! I have sewing machines to ship but after reading all the negatives, I'll ship UPS. The only problem I have with UPS is trying to use their site to set up the info and pay online. [I have an account there] I type in all the info and they still want info that is already there! This has happened many times and the last time I tryed to ship a machine, I got so disgusted I ended up taking the package to their shipping center and it ended up costing about 5.00 more than the quote I got online.
Also, when I get some time I am going to contact DHl and let them know that I will not be using their service and why. I just sighed up yesterday before I knew all this. Thanks, Phyllis
Answer
DHL may have a bad reputation in the USA but elsewhere they have a pretty good reputation. I've used them for international shipments without problem. DHL is owned by Deutsche Post.
Answer
The sage information I was once given on the subject (and which was buttressed by prior experience) was, they suck domestically, don't use them, but international is much, much better.
Answer
I'd forgotten about this one, but I noticed yesterday that http://www.repairclinic.com/ uses DHL for all their shipping. We've never had any problem with anything we've gotten from them.

I had an international buyer request I ship them an order through DHL. At the time, they didn't have a local place to take it, but they did come pick it up. The cost was more then the quote I was given.
A co-worker works with our city's "sister city" in Mexico. DHL is about the only reliable service when shipping items in Mexico. Apparently their own postal service is very corrupt and untrustworthy. He paid for the shipment at the local office, then got an additional charge later. He was told that it was delivered by a contractor and there was an upcharge, they passed it through to him. Kinda sucky CS on the shipping cost, but good service as far as delivery on international.
