Question about shipping EMS to Canada.

Question
If I mark the package as a gift the instructions say: Gift shipments
(non-commercial parcels) require a sales receipt, invoice or other
documentation to support the declared value.
What do you enclose? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Karen

Answer
I would include a copy of the receipt.
If it is not a gift, but is merchandise that someone won off of ebay, then you should mark it as such.

Answer
Thank you, but if it is a gift, would you include a copy of the receipt? That seems a bit odd to me.

Answer
I agree, it does sound odd. Not exactly the type of thing you would want to include in a gift.
Realistically however, it seems to be a requirement. You may have to weigh the options. If you don't include it, then it may get stuck up in customs or you may have problems claiming for insurance if it is damaged. Then again, without it, it might sail through just fine. Of course, I am not from Canada, so am not really familiar with all of it. Perhaps someone who is from Canada would chime in.

Answer
The company I work for, sell overseas alot.
We are required to put "merchandise & it's correct value" on the customs forms.
We include a receiept inside.
If I were to send someone a free sample or gift, I don't think you are required to have a receipt. I mean, its a GIFT.
If you need a receipt, just create your own receipt that says gift or free.
You wouldn't believe all of the sellers that mark GIFT when its not.
It is illegal to lie on the form & there are huge fines for anyone caught.
