Question
When you print the labels on USPS or Paypal and have the DC on it, does you post office scan your package?
I had a doll that went for over a hundred dollars and I printed out the label and I bought the insurnace to protect me and after 3 weeks the buyer emails because she hasn't received the package. I look up the DC and track it and all it said something to the effect that I printed the label but that does not mean the package has been shipped.
I call my post office and tell them the package has not been scanned and saying what the tracker said. They tell me they don't scan them if I print the label. He took the address I shipped to and called them the next day. Package has been there for 3 weeks and they said they tried to deliver it once but she wasn't home.
I emailed and told her it was there and they said they tried to deliver it. She never got a notice they tried. Anyway she got the doll.
When I went to the post office the other day I told them to please scan the packages. He told me this time they were told NOT to scan them. Now this is the postmaster I spoke with. I told him the tracker shows it was never shipped only that I made the label and I wanted it scanned to show I did ship it because I almost had to refund the buyer and if the package was lost I would have no proof I shipped it to show paypal.
What does your post office do? I need to ship some more the first of next week and I want them scanned.
Answer
Hi Diann,
About a year ago we had the same thing happen to us. It was after a three day holiday and we shipped 105 packages, all priority mail with delivery confirmation. 35 packages that we know of took 13+ days to be delivered. I had customers calling looking for their product, and asking for the delivery confirmation number. I had many tell me that I never shipped the item, as the del. confirmation was never scanned at my post office.
After this episode we worked somthing out with the post office. Evidentally, they cannot scan it with their "wand" connected to the computer as it will not let them without charging you. So we just scan them with their handheld scanner, the ones that the carriers carry on their route to scan delivered packages. Seems to work just fine, shows up that same night as accepted at your post office. Hope this helps?
Answer
Yes, ours scans the package at the counter (that is how we are charged the 13 cents if it's not priority and priority registers zero). Fairly recently it was added to the tracking that the package had been received at the post office when this is done. Previously, even if they scanned it it didn't say anything until it was scanned at the first hub or delivered. Occassionaly they forget to scan one and then I have heart-burn until it gets scanned at the hub or delivery. Of course, that saves the 13 cents but I'd rather it didn't get missed.
Answer
Mine told me the same thing. No scan until delivered because it's printed online and that's supposed to eliminate the need for scanning. One thing I have been doing all along is, in the memo box, I type in "Your XXXX(whatever item is) ships X/XX" and I haven't had any problem. Buyers then have an idea when it should show up. So far, it's working.

Will this settle with paypal if the package was never scanned? I was going to have to give her a refund when the package was at her post office and not scanned. Why they didn't leave her a pick up notice I don't know but it was going to cost me. At least I found her package for her.
Answer
I always have the postmaster postmark/round-stamp the label/DC receipt. I'm pretty sure that will work as proof of mailing with paypal.

I get along well with my PO. They told me they were not supposed to scan but I explained, and showed them, that it only shows as being printed and that people were not trusting me because of this. My PO agreed to scan them in using the hand-scanner. The PO's are not required to but you may be able to sweet talk yours into doing it.
Answer
I use the USPS website to print my labels, without postage, and with free delivery confirmation. My post office first "charges" me for Delivery Confirmation, and when they scan it, their computer deducts the Delivery Confirmation charge and records the Delivery Confirmation number on my receipt.
When I print the label, the USPS sends my customer an email and includes shipping date and delivery confirmation number.

I forgot to say so but we also always have the "receipt" part that prints out round-stamped also.

You know, I just don't understand the P.O. telling customers this. The scan is what makes the 13 cents show up on your receipt to be charged for electronic DC. You would think they would want the money they are due. Also, it records the DC number on the receipt so you have that as proof of mailing as well as having the receipt roundstamped.
