In praise of sales assistants!

Question
I've been reading the other threads where people have been whinging and complaining about the service they received at the boxing day sales and I thought enough was enough and it was time to have a thread in praise of sales assistants!
Sals assistants more often than not at this time of year have to put up with rudeness, snobbery and abuse from customers and have to take it with a smile because the customer is always right." They work for weeks straight without a day off leading up to Christmas and barely get a breather because then it's straight into the sales.
Sales assistants are human, they have feelings and mean comments from customers can ruin their whole day. Sometimes they have no power to change policies, even if they don't agree with them. It's easy to get angry at them for something that's not their fault so please remember it's not them that makes store policy and it's Christmas time for them too - don't make it any more difficult than it need be!
So post your words of support here, and if your'e heading to the shops today, even if you have waited in a long noisy line and are feeling frustrated why not greet the sales assistant with a big smile and tell her/him that she/he is doing a great job. It will take a few seconds of your time and might just make that person's day!

Answer
That is so lovely
I'm a SA and had prepared myself for lots of abuse and rude customers for post christmas sales but I've had nothing but wonderful and understanding people during the busy periods.
Thank you to the lovely customers out there!

Here here to everything Catherine said.
It really is such a busy and stressful time for all the sales assistants out there. Im a supervisor at DJ's and over the past few weeks Ive seen so many of the girls/women I work with just get so upset and distressed just from the sheer busy-ness and also some very horrible and mean customers. They have had to literlly drop everything and walk away and go and sit down for a while. It sooo doesnt have to be like that. Customers often say some very unessicary things.
Some also need to get their facts right too. I had a customer wanting to speak to me the other day. There was a sign saying 'Half Yearly Clearance' above this rack of clothes which wasnt reduced. He came upto me saying 'Im a lawyer blah blah blah' and how that sign was highly illegal because it was promoting reduced goods when there werent any there and that how he was going to call the Dept. Of Fair Trading and someone is going to come down and fine us and sue us and David Jones is going to loose $15000....seriously about10 minutes of him going on and on about it.
If he was really a 'lawyer' as he said he was he would realise that the sign is just promoting the sale and that as a sales assistants we have the right to refuse to to sell anything at any price to anyone. And that it actually doesnt matter what the sign says but what is actually marked on the merchandise. BUT, seeing as 'the customer is always right' I gave him a generous discount and just hoped he p issed off.

Very true. If the customer is nice, all is well. However, if the customer expects that the SA is just an SA and is there to 'serve' the customer and starts acting all hostile... Well, it's not my fault!

Answer
As I mentioned in another thread, the SA's in the ladies shoes, books and kitchenwear dept of MYER MIRANDA were wonderful!!
