Question
yes, the moment many have been dreading has arrived. i watched a presentation at work today about the new policy. the new owners of myer arent happy with the enormous value of returns each year and want to reduce how much comes back. so there is now a stricter returns policy beginning april 2.
when returning an item with proof of purchase, the only change is that it must be "within a reasonable amount of time" which myer deems to be 6 months; unless the item is faulty or does not fit its purpose.
however, certain categories of merchandise that have stricter conditions:
* Cosmetics including fragrances
* Swimwear
* Underwear
* Bedroom Accessories
* Pierced Jewellery
* Personal Care appliances
these items can only be returned in original condition with all tags attached and seals intact; unless they are faulty or do not fit their purpose.
without proof of purchase, customers will be offered only an exchange, not a refund or a returns card. when exchanging an item without proof of purchase, it must be for an item of equal or greater value. if it is of greater value then the customer must pay the difference.
if the customer chooses an item of lesser value, the remaining credit is forfeited.
i dont think the changes are unreasonable. if the customer is honest then they shouldnt have any problems with returning stuff. and 6 months is more than enough time.
Answer
That sounds reasonable in my opinion...

Are myer actually stating that on their receipts that it needs to be returned within 6 months? If not, I think they will still get a lot of customers picking a fight over this and saying that "6 months wasnt stated on the receipt" so therefore they should be given a refund. From my experience in retail anyway, I can imagine that this would happen!
Answer
^ no but it states on the returns policy "a reasonable amount of time" and store management has been told to limit it to 6 months.
Answer
Fair enough I say, Myer are very lax with their returns....

In light of this maybe the new policy isn't strict enough - they shouldn't be taking anything back that doesn't have full tags attached and look/smell brand new
(And I'm not just picking on the poster's mum, I have witnessed girls returning worn party dresses that stunk of smoke, clearly some people don't even bother washing before returning )
Anyhow thanks for the update mr industrie
