Question
I am thinking about getting this phone on optus $49 cap but Im not sure whether I should get it now or wait a while... any ideas if this phone is likely to be free on the $49 cap in one or two months time?
Whats the quality of this phone in general? The only negative Ive heard about it so far is that its too bulky, any other cons I should know about?
Answer
Is that the k800i cybershot one?
I had that for a while, just sold it a month ago because I still favour the Nokias. The camera was good, but probably not as good as most make out it is. I found my N80 had pics that were just as good. I didnt find it bulky thought, it fit in my pocket for work etc. I have some friends that both got one together and theyre really happy with it. Camera cover came down on its own a fair bit I found.

i've got the hard plastic cover over the phone and i still wouldn't call it bulky...it fits everywhere
have you considered the $69 cap with 3? the phones free on that plan
i've had no dramas with mine, it's a good phone
Answer
I love sony ericsson's full stop. They are great phones - I'd never have a nokia again.

I was the opposite Tried SE and intended to sell my Nokia but after a week I realised I couldnt rely on the SE k800i as my main phone.. Just couldnt get used to it enough to give up what I know. I think Ill always be looking for the perfect phone, but Ive never really seen one from SE that had features that appealed to me as much.
Answer
Great camera and flash.
I dont think its too bulky (I have N73 and its around the same size, i tink its fits nicely in the hands)
However, I've always found Sony Ericsson phones to be quite laggy (I have the M600i also.. and sometimes the navigation/menu takes abit longer than my N73)

Answer
^ If you think the SE phones are laggy you should see my LG before I got my K800!
But then I think it depends on how much memory it's got and how much you've already put on it.
Anyway I've had the K800 for around 2 months now and am still in love with it. I didn't buy it for the camera since I had my own digital camera, but now that I have it I just leave my camera at home. Unlike most, I actually do think it's a tiny bit chunky compared to other phones that are out now (e.g., all those 'credit card' size phones), but I don't mind it one bit.
I agree with niellellie, if you don't mind changing to 3 and is a regular user who can easily spend $69 on phone bills a month, go for the $69 cap at 3! I wish I could use up that much in a month on the phone but I'm on the $29 cap but still doesn't quite use it to the max!

I'm fond of my K800i, but I could be convinced to upgrade sooner rather than later. I generally prefer the Sony Ericsson operating system, but the joystick on the K800i is a bugger (either too stubborn or too sensitive, but neither consistently one or the other), and the camera cover slides open too easily. I'm drawn to the O2 smartphones from time to time, but I think I'd quite happily get a Sony Ericsson again, as long as I didn't get one with that wonky joystick again.
Answer
heheh.. ohhh LG are the laggggiest of laggers...
yes, i agree, there are much slimmer ones like Nokia E65.. but i think k800i is a pretty standard size. Sometimes i kinda wish i had a slimmer one so that it wont bulk out so much when i put it in my pocket when wearing jeans.
But, if the functionality is good, and you like the look of it, go for it!

Oh I totally agree the joystick is a worry. They're often the first things to break down on a SE phone. That's what happened to my boy's old SE phone, went to the point where you can only access the menu by pressing the shortcut keys. He still managed to get another SE phone as a replacement though .
I think the reason why they're easy to stuff up is because it's easy to gather dust round there, and it may no longer work when it gets too clogged up. There are SE phones without the joystick, but I don't like them .
