Does anyone know if you can get the T-Mobile Sidekick in Australia, specifically Sydney!!! =D If yes which servers provide it atm?
Answer
Yes, it is coming to Australia very soon (or has just arrived possibly!) but it's coming under the name 'Hiptop' and only by Telstra

I spoke with Telstra today on this and they were expecting to launch the Hiptop this month but have delayed this because of their launch of 3g products.
It seems they have no intention of launching this anytime soon.
Anyone work for Telstra out there that knows some inside info?

I went into Crazy John's this morning and got told to expect it before the end of July. Telstra will be the only network allowed to sell it, and it will retail for about the same prices as the top of the range BlackBerries.
What a rort!

Do you know if you can bring them over from the US and they'd work on the Telstra network?
Answer
I believe they have software on them so they can only be used by the network you bought it from. ie over in the states its Tmobile and over here it will be telstra. I assume call functions will be able to be used with any sim card but I think to use all the features including the email etc it has to be a telstra sim in a phone bought from telstra. The other thread is quite long and discusses most of these issues

i thought it was supposed to be cuming out tomorrow but they have delayed it soooo many times..

I work for Telstra and I know the HipTops were given to the Australian Swimming team to trial at the Commonwealth Games as part of the sponsorship so they should be coming soon.
I imagine they will be priced decently enough (although top of the scale at that level) for the 16-25 year age group who would probably use it most. I can't imagine them pricing it out of the age group's reach that it is marketed to but I don't know what the pricing will be or an exact date for when coming out.

I was told by a telstra shop that had the demo in store that it will be about $500.. and considering its not top of the range on features or anything it sounds pretty reasonable.

So not happy w/ Telstra at the moment. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT.
Pffft 3g. Pfft.
