RANT: Creative Zen Vision died!

Question
My Creative Zen Vision 30GB just decided for some unfathable reason the other night to NOT TURN ON no matter how many times I tried to recharge it, reset it or switch it on and off. SOOOO FRUSTRATING!
This is my second Creative that has died on its a*se within nine months of purchase, the first being the 20GB Zen.
Luckily I paid for a 5-year warranty upon purchase and it's now been sent off by JB HiFi to get repaired, but the inconvenience is killing me. I need that thing for the gym, train, uni, etc.! Plus, I've got thousands of songs organised by title, artist, genre, album, track number and year of release (took me AGES to do!) so if they're not recovered, I will be VERY ANNOYED.
The majority of reviews I read (including those on this forum) favoured the Zen Vision over the Ipod Video, so that's what I went with, and I did really love the thing (great picture, sound, features, etc.), but now if it comes down to me receiving store credit and having the choice to purchase another mp3 player, I'm really leaning towards getting the Ipod Video. I don't want to, I loved my little Zen, but Creative has really let me down (for the SECOND time!)! I'm really disappointed.
Sorry, just needed to rant!

Answer
I've had mine for a little over a year, and everything seems to be fine. Though, I think the headphones have gone dodgey.. But, the unit itself is still going strong! Hopefully that won't happen to mine, because I didn't purchase extra warranty

Answer
Hey Kayti...
My Zen Vision:M 30gb died a couple of months back, I took it to Dick Smith, they gave me a brand new one... all in the space of 30 minutes or so. I guess I didn't have the problem of sorting out my music again, as I keep it all on my laptop, and took about 40 minutes to sync my collection again.
As opposed to Apple, if your player screws up they'll take your iPod and send you a refurbished one.... booo
Use MediaMonkey to keep your music organised. It'll auto-tag, rename, and make everything all nice for you anal music people.

I cant stand Creative. My sister had this small 5gig one about two years back and she had it for about 2 months and it just died on her. She took it back to Dick Smith and they gave her a new one on the spot. Three weeks later it died again. In the end she paid an extra $50 for an ipod and thats going strong two years on.

Answer
I've got ZVM 30gig thats going strong... or at least nothing a reset wouldnt fix. I also used to have Creative Zen Touch that never missed a beat.
Trust me, if you go on ipod forums, you'll see how many people complain about their ipods and/or itunes.
Ultimately, its pot luck. I dont believe any particular mp3 player is more robust than the other. After all, its electronics, and they have tendency to break down.
If i didnt care about video quality i probably would go for ipod, simply due to choice of accessories it has. But i wanted good quality video hence chose Creative. Personally i find this whole 'Ipod vs Creative' war a bit silly!!
Dont forget, there are other players out there - iriver, toshiba, sony...

The reason that it's ultimately a toss-up between Creative and Apple for me is because the 30GB Zen Vision and 30GB Ipod Video are comparable in features and price. I would be more than happy to consider another brand altogether if someone could recommend something similar to these two products...? Everyone I know who has an iRiver has never had any problems.
Panda Bear, I know that all mp3 players will have their problems and this is how I defended my decision to buy another Creative after my first one effed up, but after my second one died within nine months, do you blame me for being a bit iffy about giving Creative another go?

Answer
no, i can totally understand you being a bit p*ssed off. I would be too!! I am just saying if you get an ipod there is no guarantee it wouldnt break either. What is your typical usage? Do you rough it, like running etc?
I know Toshiba Gigabyte (i think thats what its called) supposed to be ok, but i never got my hands on one. And yes, irivers are excellent players, i am just not to keen on how they look.

Not true! My iPod Video completely kicked the bucket and Apple gave me a brand new one without any problems.
I think the reason you hear about so many problems with iPods is because so many are sold.
That really really sucks that you've had TWO die on you Katy. I love Apple so I would still recomment the iPod...What about iriver players? Do they come in larger storage sizes?

Answer
Panda Bear, I treated my Zen Vision really well. I was super paranoid after my first one died. The only thing I could have done wrong by it, I suppose, is flick through songs too quickly. I used to scroll through playlists, etc. REALLY quickly sometimes and it froze on me once or twice as a result, but nothing the reset button didn't fix. Thanks for the link.
Even the guys I spoke to at JB and Dick Smith recommended Creative over Apple, so I dunno, I dunno - maybe Creative really is as good as it gets?
I hear that iRivers are good quality but I don't particularly like how they look either. I think the largest size available in Australia is 20GB, and I don't know if that has video. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
