Answer
Have you tried virus scans? Do you have virus protection? Is the harddrive full? (not a common issue but I used to find with my old computer if the hard drive was full it would go slow and often freeze and time out)
Answer
i tried a virus scan, it came out clean, and the harddrive has 40gb of space left .
Answer
Do you have heaps of programs running in the background? Even ones you dont know are there?
You may have stuff that is processing like crazy which is making your computer freeze up. As soon as you log back in, check your Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del to get there) and see what programs are running and what your CPU is running at.
Answer
i just checked, the only applications that are open are the 3 internet pages im using....
but the processes list is packed, but when i go to delete one of them it says "warning: terminating a process can cause undesired results including loss of data and system inability.the process will not be given a chance to save its state or data before it is terminated. do you want to delete?"
what do i do?
Answer
PLESAE dont go deleting random processes - you will completely screw your computer up.
What % is your CPU Usage at? (should be down the bottom of that screen)
Answer
the cpu keeps changing, going between about 2 and 43
Answer
Have you tried running anti-spyware programs as well?
Answer
try closing internet explorer and see how it affects your CPU.
In theory it should come all the way down. If its still fluctuating, you must have some program or application running.
Sort your processes in Task Manager by Memory Usage and see which ones come on top.
Answer
get a mac
not helpful now i know...good luck with it
maybe try de-fragging? if you've never done it, that could be causing your computer to run slow
