How does automatic bidding work?? Ive only bought one thing off ebay and that was a buy it now item so i don't really know what im doing!
In the ''Ready to bid'' section on the item page i put in my maximum bid ammount and went through with it...but the price of the item then went up $11.00!! Wouldn't ebay make it go up the least ammount possible! its only a few dollars away from my maximum bit now! What did I do wrong?
Answer
How do you change your highest maximum bid?
Eg, bid on shoes, starting price of $10, put in maximum bid of $500.... Heaps of time left ( 9d 13h) and you realise you dont want to spend $500 but only $100. Bidding is only at $88.90
How to change?
Answer
Sonrissa- You probably did nothing wrong.. another person may have come in at the same time as when you submitted your bid, and the amount they put in was probably where the additional $11 came from..
Bella30- Log in to Ebay, read this and use the link to the 'Bid Retraction Form' if you are allowed to retract your bid.

If someone has previously entered a higher maximum bid then eBay will bid for them.
For example, take an item with a starting price of $10.00
Person A enters a maximum bid of $18.50
The item will remain at $10.00, and Person A will be the highest bidder.
The next day, Person B sees the item and enters a bid of $10.50
eBay will automatically use Person A's max bid amount to bid against Person B.
The item will increase to $10.50 and Person B will be the highest bidder (technically), but will be immediately outbid by Person A. The price will now be $11.00, and Person A will be the highest bidder.
Person A will be the highest bidder until someone enters a bid of $18.51 or more.
It could be something like this:
Person A: $11.00
Person B: $15.50
Person A (eBay auto bid): $16.00
Person C: $18.00
Person A (eBay auto bid): $18.50
Person B: $19.00.... [new highest bidder!]

Thanks minnie and all that jazz ....I thought it may work that way. They thing that confused me is that it had 4 bids on it and then on mine the (5th bid) it went up $11! I thought it would have done what you said (go up 50c or something). I went back later last night and nobody had out bid me untill later today! I'm not game enough to try that again!
