Question
Hi All,
My mom is coming here next weekend. My mom is diabetic and has got BP.
she is a doctor so she is bringing all the medicine along, so I did a great
mistake of not thinking about insurance.
Now my mom has got thyroid ,and the specialist has asked her to take blood test a month later to determine the dosage.(Thank god ..at least we came to know about it earlier)
Now I am planning to take insurance ...my question is
1. Will Insurance cover this thyroid tests ? If yes ,which insurance is good?
2. Is it possible to go directly to the diagnostic center to get tested ?
3. Can I take a insurance after she reaches here or I have to take before it (I have only 4 days left ..will I be able to get insurance so quick)?
4. Should I mention about this thyroid problem when getting a insurance?
Pls advise
Any Help appreciated
Answer
1. No, it will not be covered. It will be considered as pre-existing condition.
2. No. You need to first go to the doctor, get a prescription for the lab test and then go to the lab.
3. You can do it either way. Insurance can start as early as the next day or any future date you specify. However, if she is 65+, some products must be purchased before coming to the US, or within 1 month of arrival into the US or must have prior insurance.
4. Visitors medical insurance plans do NOT ask for medical questions. Therefore, there is no place in the form to mention that.
